So DD has this promotion, DDSMART. I'm not sure who was the smart person, or perhaps I'm wrong in my logic...

I went to DD the other day and thought, that the Multigrain bagels are on the DDSmart menu, so they should be good for you, right? WRONG - Dead Wrong in fact!

Their Multigrain bagel has 390 calories, 8 grams of fat and 9 grams of fiber
Compared with their plain bagel which has 320 calories, 2.5 grams of fat and 5 grams of fiber.
I know that fiber is filling, but come on, the fat is 3 times as much - how can you consider that a smart decision?

I ordered that a couple of weeks ago thinking I was making a good decision. I was so pissed to find out the calorie and fat content. Now I just stick to my Thomas Hearty Grains Bagels. Evil!
  • flat bread is the way to go at DD.

The egg white flat bread with turkey is delicious. Its 280 calories and not bad at all with fat. I had to bring in donuts for Donut Thursdays at work last week. I just picked up the egg white flatbread for myself (I did my research the night before) and the rest of my co-workers ate the unhealthy donuts... hehe. The donuts from there are actually lower in fat than other places. I caved and had a Wegmans french crueler this morning (darn donut thursdays), and it had 19 g of fat in it! Compared to like 8 or 9 for a chocolate creme filled donut from DD. At least Thursdays are my days in the gym, the elliptical should help erase my lack of will power :D
  • not to defend dunkin' donuts but quite often there is more to food than the handful of numbers gleaned from the nutrition fact list. while the smart choice bagel might seem to be worse based on statistical information, it may have been made using real, whole foods rather than from a chemical concoction with an ingredient list half a mile long. i don't know if this is this case with dunkin' donuts but it's worth looking into. oh, and one other thing, you're looking for "smart" food choices in a donut shop???

Hey now, their coffee keeps me pretty "smart" throughout my morning... But that's about all I'll order from there. The flatbreads are good, but entirely too carby for my liking.

Yes, you're right... I didn't make the smartest choice... Typically I make my coffee for the drive in and pack my breakfast and lunch to avoid this type of temptation. I needed the extra caffeine and wanted something to eat before I got to work.
Next time it's the flatbread or wait until I get to work.

Just shows how buzz words condition us to think things are good. They have my favorite indulgence the chocolate creme fill *drool*
