How did you go through the detox transition?

So I'm a girl who eats fast food and restaurants because (1) I'm single and I hate to cook for one, (2) it's easy with my teaching schedule (I'm often at work until 7 or 8 at night), and (3) my kitchen is too small to cook to begin with.
Regardless, I have started seeing a nutritionist and in the last two or three months perhaps, we have developed some new eating habits that have been working.
I gave her a list of foods that I like a lot, can tolerate, and can't stand at all. She put together a five day meal plan for me introducing some new things (like hummus, black-bean burgers, etc) I also have tried to avoid getting processed foods. So instead of buying Jenno-O turkey burgers, I bought the real deal.
I went through the kitchen, threw out all the old things that I knew weren't going to be helpful, and then went to the store and only bought what was on that list. And that's what I proceeded to make (with some substitutions (like turkey burger instead of beef burger, or veggie burger instead of black-bean burger) and I'm eating what she suggested, but maybe not together in the same meal. SO there are a lot of changes.
Lately I've been feeling grumbly in my tumbly. My stomach seems to "growl" but it's not because I'm hungry, I have more gas and have to go the toilet multiple times.
Anyone have these problems when changing their diet like this?
I also noticed that when I do have fast food, I don't feel satisfied and I'm still hungry, but when I have food at home, a little bit of chicken, a little bit of green beans, a little bit of mushrooms, etc, I have food on my plate.
I'd love to hear how everyone went through this "detox" phase.

A little bit of stomach upset is normal when you change your diet. Vegetables can cause you to have some gas, some more than others. While unpleasant, it's a small price to pay for improved health. I can't speak for everyone, but in my case, the symptoms have subsided greatly as my system got used to the new diet.
If it's really bothering you, you could try one of the over-the-counter anti-gas products for a few weeks while you make the transition. You're doing great - just keep going and I believe you'll feel a lot better soon. Best of luck!0 -
It could be due to an increase of fiber in your diet. Make sure you are getting more than enough water if you have increased your fiber consumption.
Otherwise, it might be that your body can't properly digest something you are eating. Note when you have the stomach thing... see if it happens when you consume a certain food.0 -
To help with stomach noises and gas try taking a probiotic supplement. Your gut flora has adapted for your previous diet and needs a little extra help to get all the digestive enzymes in balance for the new diet.0

It's a good thing. Keep it up.
I lived in an RV post-Hurricane Katrina for almost a year. I cooked 3 meals a day in there. Unless your kitchen is smaller than that (and it was a pretty basic Fema RV), you can cook in your kitchen. Buy the ice-glazed chicken and fish portions from the freezer section at the grocery store. Frozen vegetables are easy to portion out. Wrap a potato in plastic wrap and nuke it. Easy cheesy.0 -
This is just like me. I live alone in a studio apartment with a mini fridge and limited cooking space. I've been here a year and I'm still making changes. When I first started, my biggest change was ordering a regular hamburger instead of a big mac at Mcdonalds. Over time, I wanted more food and decided a lot of the fast food I was eating I could make at home.
I eat a LOT of sandwiches, probably 2 a day some days, along with simple things like eggs, vegetables and salads. Just making small changes over the last year have helped me drop almost 70 pounds. Add in a bit of exercise and you can make a huge difference. You're headed in the right direction, just keep up the good work!0
