Wendy's Grilled Chicken Sandwich options

So, my husband wanted to go to Wendy's for lunch today. I said ok, because I knew Wendy's had some healthier alternatives for me to eat. Since I knew in advance we were going, I looked up their nutritional information and decided I was going to get an Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich except on the sandwich bun instead of the premium bun, and plain because I'm not big on lettuce and tomato, and they use too much mayo. This drops the calories for an Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich w/350 calories to 230. It also drops the sodium from 1000 to 830. Well, I realized that the substitution would basically make it the same as a plain $0.99 Crispy Chicken Sandwich except with the grilled chicken fillet. Talk about a cost savings!
So when we got there I asked if I could get the $0.99 Crispy Chicken Sandwich and substitute for the grilled chicken fillet (expecting to pay a little extra since the grilled chicken fillet is bigger) I was told no by the manager with no explaination, even AFTER I reiterated I would pay extra for the substitution. So I had to pay the full $4.09 for a plain Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich on a sandwich bun  It was good, but not a fair price for what I actually got :grumble:
Thanks for listening to me vent

Lol, I'm one step ahead of you - I just emailed them before posting on there. I also checked the option that I wanted them to contact me and left my contact information (1) to make sure they read it, and (2) to see what their answer is. We'll see what they say - it said I'd be contacted within 2 days.0

Ironic how they say no to healthier options (even when you are willing to pay extra) but YES YES YES to extra cheese, extra mayo, biggie fries and biggie pop!
Gotta love America!0 -

I understand your frustration, but have to say that I also understand the decision. Substitutions are easy in a sit-down restaurant, but in fast food, especially a franchise, they can usually only bend so much. The workers, even the managers, aren't the final decision-makers on pretty much anything and have to cover their own butts too. As someone who's worked at 3 very different food establishments (a locally-owned cafe, Sonic, and concession stands at pro stadiums) I can also tell you that some things are counted and reported to an extreme while others are basically not counted at all or it's no big deal if they get "spoiled" out. (When an item is damaged or a customer drops something and it's replaced free of charge, it still has to be reported in inventory under the "spoiled" category, and usually requires a manager/supervisor to do this and a written explanation.) As an example from concession stands, it was no big deal if we spoiled out a drink cup, but the personal pizzas or hot dogs were more of a deal, and you'd better hope there was a supervisor witnessing the incident if it was Dippin' Dots, b/c those are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to spoil out! They actually WEIGH the bags at the end of the day to make sure you didn't eat some, refill cups, give out too many samples, etc.
In this case, they're probably required to keep strict inventory on the chicken but not necessarily on the buns.0 -
@PixieGoddess - Don't get me wrong; I'm not mad at the workers or the manager for saying no, I've worked fast food before so I know EXACTLY how it works having been on the management side myself. I'm just disappointed in how I was told no (goes back to the saying "it's not what you say but how you say it") and the lack of options provided. Guess I'll just stick to fast food places like Jason's Deli or Schlotzski's where I can have it more "my way"0

Pixiegoddess: I have to agree with you. I understand the frustration from the OP, but I also know that the chicken fillet on the 99 cent sandwhich and the grilled chicken on the ultimate chicken grill are two different qualities of pattys. The grilled costs the company more money so I can see why it was not given for the same price as the lower quality 99 cent patty. The ultimate chicken patty is also larger than the ones used on the 99 cent sandwich.0

You mean you didn't know?? They have to charge you extra to pick off all the breading, and wring the oil out before they grill it? Its like, extra work and all. lol0
