Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has found that eating certain foods the day or night before weighing in has made a negative impact?
Thanks!

I agree with Jim..avoid anything from take out joints way too much sodium and that will show on the scales for a day or 2 after you consume it.0

Really in the long run who cares? It's the long term trend that matters not week to week fluctuations.0 -

I care because in the first week I lost 2 ounces and I would really like to see the scale go down, but thanks for your advice anyway.0 -

Yes but what Acg67 is saying is that any temporary loss from diuretic foods/ avoiding sodium etc is just that, temporary. Fat loss will show properly on the scales.
If you manage to lose an extra 1/2lb this week by avoiding salt etc you'll have to do the same next week, the week after, the week after that blah blah blah............. to stay consistent.
Fat loss will show, no tricks necessary.0 -
If you have to avoid a certain food to "trick" the scale into thinking you've lost, then it doesn't count as a loss since you'll get it back once you eat it again. Avoid sodium and you might be down some, but the next time you eat it and weigh you'll be discouraged because that weight is back.
Honestly, I weigh every morning. I try to log only once a week, if that. If I lose two pounds one day, I don't log it until I can be sure it's not just a fluctuation.
If I avoid sodium or something and lose two pounds by tomorrow, log it, then have gained it back the next day, what was the point of avoiding that food?0 -
The day before my weigh in I always try to eat a regular lunch and then for supper I eat salad. That way you are not going to have to worry about having something heavy in your system.0

Avoiding high sodium foods is definitely your best bet!0

... or just eat properly and don't aim to cheat the system as you only cheat yourself in the long run. Isn't that how most of us got here in the first place (me included)?0

Thank you everyone who offered suggestions. I wasn't saying I was planning on cheating the scale, but if I only weigh in once a week I don't want to think I haven't lost any weight that week or gained some just because of something I ate the night before.0

This. I also weigh every day and log once a week. I need to see it consistently before I know I've truly lost it. I don't vary my foods based on my logging day.0 -
don't eat late, dont let your last meal be high in carbs (if i eat late and its bread, i have belly bloat the next morning) and the sodium as has been said. I get it, the f*cking numbers shouldn't matter but they do until you start SEEING changes.0

I think are missing the point....if you eat the way you normally eat...it should not matter what you ate the night before....week over week you will see a trend (hopefully decline) and can adjust from there.
If you avoid foods that make you bloat or retain water the night before, then you will show lighter on the scale on weight day, but then be right back to your normal weight with water retention the following day.
If you are doing it purely for psychological issues to make yourself stick to the diet you put yourself on, then ok..whatever helps you...but its pointless....eat normal every day, and you will see a trend week to week.
If you aren't losing, you aren't doing something right...2 weeks is not enough of a timeframe to decide you aren't losing.0
