Quad Roller Skating Fit Dilemma

Does anybody know where, how to find custom fit quad roller skates for beginners? I love to skate but haven't done it regularly for over 25 years. Kids and age do awful things to your feet, so I need to get skates that are comfortable to get back on the floor in. The local rinks can't really help with true custom fitting. I bought some that gave me blisters. The sales guy said you just have to get used to them. I tried getting a couple of other brands at another rink, but I have to wait for the place to order in each pair I want to try and then they have to be able to sell them to somebody else. Isn't there someplace where they still do true custom fitting? Willing to travel. Please help. Thanks.

I think I may have a solution for you! I love roller skating myself. I have bad knees, back, and ankles so I was in the market for something that wouldn't cause any stress on these areas. I came across a company called Scorpion. They have skates that actually fit right over your own shoes and are adjustable. Kind of like the old shoe skates back in the day but way more improved. They are great. I love them and very happy I purchased them. They are considered street skates though but I'm pretty sure you can where them indoors too. Here is the link for you to check out.
Good luck

FANTASTIC! That may be just the solution. Thanks so much.
Pagie ... you are my new best friend! These are great! I can skate again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!0 -
Hi, I ordered my skates for roller derby online.
A bunch of measurements were taken by me and sent to them and the skates were mailed.
Best skates ever! Fit like a dream, no blisters ever. They are better than any ice skates, roller blades or running shoes I've ever owned and I used my roller skates for high intensity.

I found Roller Derby online to be a little confusing. Since I haven't skated regularly in over 25 years, I have to consider myself a beginner again, too. Are these good beginner skates?0

I used to play ice hockey... you need to get skates that are fitted properly, they need to totally hug the foot and not leave any gaps for movement. They actually fit tighter than shoes do. The kind of skates I used to have for hockey contained a gel that literally molds itself to the shape of your foot, you buy the right size then you wear them around the house with skate guards on until they mold to the shape of your foot. The laces need to be really tight, again so your foot does not move around.
You may find that you need skates half a size smaller than your normal shoe size, because they fit that much tighter than a shoe. And they should be properly fitted by someone who knows skates, not just buying them based on size without trying them on, etc.0 -
I actually do understand all that. I'm just trying to find some place that does the fitting. The places near me (within an hour's drive) have sales-people, but not experts in fitting. They also don't have the stock on hand to try different styles and sizes until it works. 20 years ago when I did skate all the time, my feet were different. I could wear a regular skate right off the shelf. Now there are all these other issues going on that make fitting necessarily more precise. I get what you're saying, but where can I go?0

I skate all the time with Quads. You can find teh oxelo brand at Decathlon 49.99 pounds they are very good and you should find your size0

There is a local Roller Derby shop in my area that does fittings. Since these are skaters who are also very athletic, perhaps seeking out the derby community would be more beneficial than leisure roller skaters.0

That's what I'm finding, too, Amy. I sent a message out to DerbySmack.com this morning. We'll see what happens.0

Nothing happened. I'm going to Skorpion.0

How did the skorpions work out for you? Do you find the width of them to be hard to deal with as compared to regular quad skates?

If you have a few tools in the garage or you can bribe some one who does, you can attach normal sturdy shoes to most plates. (you just need to be able to drill some holes and cut down the bolts) Soft turf soccer boots are best, you just need to cut off the cleats. That way you can try plenty on to find a great fit.
