C25K without phone app?

I don't have a smart phone, so I can't use a training app. For those of use who are technologically stunted, any suggestions about the best way to do C25K the "old fashioned" way? Stop watch? Count paces?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you have an mp3 player? I did c25k by down loading podcasts and uploading the mp3 to my phone, but any mp3 player will work. I used this site www.c25k.com/podcasts.htm I didn't love the music but it was the easiest way to get me running without a smartphone. Hope this helps and good luck!
  • I do it with a watch. If you have access to a treadmill, use the timer on that.

Same here. Didn't care for the music either. I usually just down the music low enough or use 1 earpiece to hear when I am supposed to run or walk.

    HI

Did mine by reading up on the idea behind the programme and just listening to music and listening to my body, doing the running / walking bit. Ran my first 10 K 12 weeks after my first run. So must have done something right, good luck

This is how I did it the first time. The music is kind of crazy, but I think it's more designed to provide a comfortable rhythm to help you breathe and pace yourself.

If you google free c25k podcasts you can find them in any genre imaginable. I agree with the above posters about some of the music. Thankfully about halfway through I explored the web and found some even worst and some really great podcasts. My phone is bulky so I prefer running without it. About once a month I will take it so I can track my distance and pace. Let's me see an improvement which I find encouraging.

I don't like the music on the app so I just checked what I was meant to do for each run using this site:

I also used the podcasts with my mp3 player. Do a search here on MFP - there is a post floating around here with a list of lots of places to find the downloads - with different types of music.

I would write down my run on a post-it and use my watch as my timer. Worked okay for me!

I used the podcasts from nhs.uk. I liked Laura and thought she was helpful and encouraging. Week 7's music was a big downer though, But at that point there aren't anymore intervals, so I just ran with my own music from then on.

I've tried the C25k phone app, but I had better success with the Run Fat B!tch, Run method. Ruth Fields, the author, has you create a 3 mi loop from your front door, through your neighborhood, and back (I prefer a park near my home that has a 1 mi loop already). You do a 10 minute warm-up walk, run for 5 minutes, then finish your 3 mi. She provides a whole weekly schedule, but what I did was just try to tack on a minute or so more each time I ran. I was up to 12 minutes non-stop and then I switched to the phone app, but I'm going back to the Run Fat B!tch, Run way because I was more successful at it.
