After a 19 mile hike involving big old hills on Saturday, I have muscle soreness that I have never had before, specifically the muscles by my shins, so the tibialis anterior at a guess.
How do I stretch them out?

Foam rollers work wonders! Or an active rest day, some walking or something light.0

Do ankle circles and focus on pointing your toes down. Also, ice massage works wonders as well. Stretch your calves as well, including a bend knee calf stretch0

I always get shin splints unless I stretch my calves before & after working out so you might try that too. Not sure how to stretch your shin muscles but you can stretch your calves by lifting toes up against a wall and leaning into it until you feel it stretch and then hold. Good luck!0
