What to do about gas?

Okay so, sorry this is kind of a TMI question. But: I have heard that certain foods-- cucumbers, as an example-- cause excess gas in the intestines. I have not really noticed this to be true, except when I eat a large salad, but that probably has more to do with the lettuce or the fact that it's food that is not very calorie-dense.

However, regardless of the causes (though if anyone can give me sources for foods causing gas I would be happy to read them), what do YOU think is the best way to avoid/treat gas, if you struggle with it? I am very wary of taking products such as Beano, because it seems more 'natural' to let the gas work itself out. Would anyone recommend taking something to avoid gas, or has anyone had a bad experience with taking such a product? At home I don't really care, but when I'm out in public it's somewhat embarrassing to have to go find a place to 'break wind' without anyone noticing.

Thanks for your input in advance! And if you want to make fart jokes instead of contributing, just make sure they're good ones.

Once your body adjusts to the increased fiber, the gas will taper off. In the meantime, always stand downwind so as not to offend.
