Hi Everybody, im new to this site and i just had some questions. I recently did some research on HIIT and i wanted to give it a shot. I plan on doing this 3 times a week. Has anyone tried this before and had great fat loss results?

Replies

  • Im currently experiencing with it ! we will have to share our results with eachother ! The research I have done sure is convincing! I have been trying to switch mine up. So one day I might do on and off sprinting in intervals of 20 seconds. Where as other days I will run for 3 minutes and then do something else less intense for 3 minutes like squats or bicep curls.

I started this today (70% of it, anyway) to replace one of my three weekly runs.

It is a challenge, to be sure. I don't see how anyone could do it 3x a week without being in incredible shape.

As I understand it, TRUE HIIT (as opposed to just intervals) is tough to achieve.

HIIT is great cardio. More efficient than LISS.

Of course, the weight loss part comes not from running but from eating less food. HIIT is a good way to maintain energy levels and strengthen your heart and lungs.

I do a 17 minute HIIT workout twice a week. At first I could barely make it through, but now I'm able to get through it without stopping. I don't know if it's working in the fat loss department as I only started measuring again, so we'll see in a few weeks.

In school we knew this as "fartlek" training. It's butt kicking but makes you feel so awesome. Keep tabs on your progress and when you look back you'll be amazed at how far you've come without realizing it.

Most of the stuff I do is based around one form of hiit or another. It's not magical, just different, and it suits my preferences for working out. Keep in mind that if you want to weight your calorie deficit is the key, not the type of cardio you do.

*Sorry, I have no links to prove this so you'll have to take my word for it.

It works really well. I have been using it 5 days a week for the past 3 months and have lost 48 pounds, of course in conjunction with a calorie deficit diet. Good luck!

This. Lyle McDonald has some comparitive info on his site. HIIT activates Type II fast twitch muscle fiber. Regular cardio doesn't. Other than that, for calorie burning it is not superior. Just more efficient. A 20 minute HIIT routine gets you about as much burn as a 45 or 50 minutes steady state moderate intensity cardio workout. That is why I prefer it.
