Need a workout suggestion... See story.

3-4 times a week I do 45 minutes on the elliptical and then various weight training, followed by an ab routine. I am unable to run and/or do lunges of any kind because of the condition of my knees. According to MFP my workout burns 800-1000 calories depending what I add or skip. To me that sounds like a lot, but I'm craving a more difficult workout. I was a division-1 athlete for 5 years and I crave that exhausted. not an ounce of energy left workout, BUT I don't want to spend more than an hour on the elliptical. I'm looking for a workout that is intense, but easy on my knees. Looking for any suggestions, recommendations, or advice. Thanks!!
