In another post the topic was how much water and if there is ever a too much -- I have the opposite question does everyone really need that much water?
I only drink water (no coffee, soda, juice etc etc) and some days I will drink a lot some days not so much. Im never thirsty (iknw that this isnt a sign of thirst). I am losing weight, I dont have headaches -- Im just wondering if everyone really needs so much water??

    Ractayjon,

I don't think I do, to be honest. I'm just now figuring this out. On a good day, I'll drink 4-5 8oz cups of water (with 1/2 zero cal lemon flavoring packet thingies) and I've been watching my *ahem* bodily fluids for clarity (a sure sign of hydration) and I seem to be fine at this amount. Now, that's not to say that twice as much wouldn't be *better*.... lol but I don't think I'm suffering from dehydration at 4-5 cups - and that's WITH a TON of coffee a day. Of course, there's need and then there's what's optimum. Based on all my subjective evidence I would suggest that 6-8 would be optimum for me at this point in time - more when I'm heavily active.
  • there was another post about water today, i just copied my response from that one...

it's not that its overrated but water is part of the balancing act that is a healthy lifestyle. aside from breathing, water is the most important element in the practice of staying alive: you would survive far longer without food than you would without water. that said, it's not magical. clean, fresh water is awesome but you need other stuff too. health and nutrition is a balance of all the elements of your diet, not just going overboard on one thing or completely cutting out another.

don't know if that's at all helpful. there's no one answer that applies to everyone in every situation...

Water needs are just as individual as everything else. The 64oz a day is a general guideline, but some people need less and some people need more. If you are drinking enough water, you will be peeing about every 2-3 hours and it should be a light yellow color and fairly odorless.

I find my energy level highest, hunger lowest, and overall feel the best when I get in my 64-80 ounces of water a day. Sometimes even more when I workout hard or go over on sodium - such an evil food!
