I'm new here too (1st day). I have been a life long yo-yo dieter. Lost a lot of weight, and gain a lot of it back. Even though this is my first day here, I started dieting again 2 months ago by watching my calories. This website and the (iPhone and iTouch) apps really do help! For me the apps make it easier than caring around a notebook (but that works too)

A few things that have worked for me.
    - Drink plenty of water. The more water you drink, the less your body will retain. Just don't drown youself!
    - Track EVERYTHING you eat. Amazing how many calories are in some foods that as so small. I gained all my weight back when I stopped tracking my intake in the past.
    - Don't dwell on what your scale tells you every morning. It goes up and down for everyone.
    - Learn portion size references. Like 1 cup = a baseball. 1/2 cup = the size of a computer mouse. 3 ozs of meat, chicken or fish = a deck of playing cards. Etc... Google "portion size" and look at "Images".
    - And finally, if you slip and have a bad day, or a special occasion comes up, don't give up. We all slip, and we all deserve a special occasion from time to time.

Remember, don't think of it as a diet. Think of it as a new way to look at food. Make it a life long change. Treat yourself from time to time. Try to find alternatives for the foods on your "bad" list. And don't be obsessed with how slow or fast you lose the weight. If you stick to it, it will come off.

I should probably shut up now.

    Good luck!
