The Polar's are really popular - and there is a good re-sale market for them. I think you are safe with one of them. I don't know anything about Timex - and I think that Fitbit is more for measuring distance/steps than heart rate.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards the Polar's at this point.. Do you own one ?

My wife has the Polar FT4 and she really likes it.

She had a New Balance and a Garmin before, but this one she seems to like more than those.

I've got a Timex. It's super simple: calculates your BPM and calories burned.

I was going to get a Polar based on the rave reviews here but when I checked out other peoples reviews on Amazon it kind of dissuaded me. There were a lot of negative reviews about how it just starts going wonky for no apparent reason even when the contact points are where they're supposed to be on the chest strap. There were some reviews about how the HRM just stopped working after a year and that was after ruling out a battery issue.

Polar FT4 because I have one and I love it. I don't know what the FT7 does differently so I can't say anything about that or the others. It's very user friendly too. You just plug in your info and off you go. When you start your workout, press a button. When you finish, press a button and it tells you time spent working out and calories burned. Perfecto. I got mine off of Amazon for $60ish last summer.

Different targets. The Fitbit is designed to be worn 24/7. It keeps track of everything. The Polar is designed to be worn while exercising only.

I personally bought a Fitbit One. The thing is amazing. Being able to track all my activity is awesome.

I wanted a FitBit. Since I've been maintaining for almost 2 years I guess I don't need it, but I'm a numbers kind of person so it seemed like a cool thing to have. But they had such poor ratings from the tech sites that I decided against it.

Do any of the Fit bits's actually do heart rate though?

If you have not looked into them may want to consider the Motoactiv. I love mine and my wife ended up having to get a garmin and fitbit to get all the features the Motoactiv has. Down side to it is battery life I have to charge mine every other day but it uses the same usb style charger as my cell phone so not a big deal.

Not heart rate, no. I'm not very interested in heart rate, though. If BPM is a concern for you, the Fitbit isn't the way to go.

If you want it for all day- look at the Bodymedi Fit. HRM are only for cardio exercise and fit bit only for step exercise and is not as accuratevasvBMF. There is also the new AMIIGO coming out.
