Waiting on biopsy results

OK I have had too much time to think about something and it's making me a nervous wreck.

I went to see a dermatologist yesterday due to a suspicious mole I had...my doctor did a biopsy yesterday and I probably won't get any results until tomorrow or Friday.

My family has a history of melanoma and I, my brother and dad have had pre-cancerous moles removed.

I've been looking online (probably a terrible idea) and I'm worried it may be cancer.

Has anyone else had this done...was it cancer for you or was it nothing...

I kinda just need someone to talk me down from the ledge. My husband is away from home and I'm alone with nothing but my thoughts and it's driving me insane.

First off, stay off the internet. I do the same thing and it about puts me in the mental ward. My friend went through it and it turned out to be nothing. If it is, they got it early and you will be fine. Fingers crossed that it is nothing.

I had one on my chest that changed color and shape and had me totally freaked out, so I went in and got it removed. I was ready to puke with worry the entire time until I got the results. It was totally fine. Here's hoping you are too. Stay off Dr. Google, it will do nothing but stress you! Happy thoughts!

Time for a full body mole check every year! I call it my annual slice and dice! 10 years ago they told me I would have melanoma by the time I was 40. They were wrong. Whatever it is, you caught it early and you can deal with it on Friday! Good thoughts coming your way!!! Oh, and keep off of Google!!!

What bothers me most is that I saw a dermatologist last year and this year...(HORRIBLE DOCTOR). He did a brief once over the first time I saw him. The second time I saw him, I kid you not, I walked into the office and out in less than 10 minutes (that includes the 5 minutes I sat in the waiting room and the 3 minutes waiting for the doctor to come into the checkup room). He didn't have me remove my clothes or even take a glance at the moles I was concerned about.

When I went in for my annual with my GYN, SHE is the one who said "Hey...that mole looks suspicious to me. I think you should have a dermatologist check it out."

The one she pointed out is the very one the dermatologist biopsied yesterday. He said the other ones didn't look off but he wanted to check that one.

Words can't express how angry I am with that first dermatologist. I told him to look at it and he was dismissive and didn't give me a once over at all...someone should take his license.

I don't blame you there. Some doctors are idiots. However, don't waste your energy being mad - or worried! Keep thinking good thoughts. They will carry you through regardless of the results of the biopsy. My father is 92 and has had many moles, etc. removed, frozen, and otherwise treated for skin cancer. This has been going on for years. And he is 92 and pretty healthy!

But like the other posters said, it is probably nothing. Be thankful you have an awesome GYN who is thorough and caring. Keep taking good care of yourself, and keep us posted. I will be thinking good thoughts for you!

I'm not going to say much, just that if the news isn't good, send me a line. Every set of biopsies means I have to remind myself that no news is good news. It doesn't mean I don't stress but I know my stress won't change the news. Make sense? I'm here if you need a NED (No Evidence of Disease) to talk to.

And yes, Dr. Google is NEVER, EVER your friend.

Biopsy results are back.

It's not cancer, but it is a "moderately atypical mole" or PRE-cancerous.

They made an appointment to go back in and take out the rest of it. Good thing I went in to this doctor. That other guy was a quack.

It is a good thing you went to another doctor. A lot of people don't take charge of their health that way.

I had a mole removed in my teens because it was suspicious but it turned out to be nothing. I had two that changed recently so my doctor sent me to a dermatologist. She said that while they had changed, it was okay, there were no pre-cancer symptoms. I am however going in a couple of weeks to have 6 others removed. They are they type that would become cancerous if it were to happen, so she's going to remove them for me now since they're covered by health insurance.

That waiting period is scary, especially when you have a family history. I have a hard time staying off the internet when it comes to these things!

I went through the same thing last year. I had gone to my dermatologist several times over a few years and always them to check a mole - they always dismissed it as nothing. After changing dermatologists I asked the new one to check it, they biopsied and found it was pre-cancerous, so they did an excision. I wish it was a more uncommon experience - doctors should be more thorough. It all worked out for me, I have a small scar and now I go to the new doctor for a yearly body scan. Hopefully all works out for you too!
