My cat had to have surgery this morning and my eyes have been watering all day!!! He is 6yro orange tabby, not a very nice one either lol. He is very tempermental and doesn't like a lot of people ... but he's still my lil buddy, he follows me everywhere. 5 months ago I had to take him to the vet (which is never a good experience with him) because his bladder was blocked and he couldn't go potty. They had to put a catheter in him, when they finally unblocked him he was peeing blood. They suggested keeping him overnight but we didn't think it would be a good idea because they would have to sedate him everytime they would need to check him. I went to pick him up and I stepped in the lobby and could hear him screaming (like a child) and growling because he was so pissed. I had to put on the vets thick xray gloves to get him out of their cage into his, he still managed to bite me through the gloves. Finally got him home.
So anyway..... Yesterday he got a block again and couldn't go potty. We took him this morning and they had to do surgery to make the ureatha wider so he could pass stones when he gets them again instead of going through putting a catheter in him everytime. I have read multiple articles that it will occur again if the surgery is not performed. Which pretty much this surgery makes him more like a girl cat since the "opening" is that much wider.
I am sooooo stressed out because I know how incredibly unhappy he probably is sitting at the vet. He has to stay all night tonight, all day tomorrow and night. I can't get him until Monday. I am sad because everynight when I get home fromt work he is sitting at the front door waiting on me, now tonight and tomorrow he won't be there. Every morning when my alarm goes off he makes sure I don't fall back to sleep by constantly walking across me on the bed, lol .. walking back and forth across my stomach and head. He is even nice enough to make sure my hubby doesn't fall back to sleep either, lol.
They are going to have to sedate him everytime to check him. Vet said he was doing more than growling at people, which probably means he bit someone (I had already warned them he bites when he gets mad). I feel so bad that he's there and miserable, and I can't do anything. My husband keeps telling me not to worry and they fixed him, but I can't help it ... he's my kid :)

Aww I'm sorry you're not with your baby right now :( I definitely understand, my kitties are my babies too. I'm hoping he gets better soon though. I know you're stressed but this will make it better since he won't have to go back to the vet to keep getting catheters put in. I'm hoping you get to see him soon though! :)

:flowerforyou: there is no hug smilie so that will have to do

I have two cats and a dog and when ever they are at the vet I worry, they are my babies. My one cat has some of the attitude that yours does, not as much but last time he was in the vets he tried to bite them. They scared and not feeling well so its understandable that they might bite. Hope your little kitty feels better soon.

Thank you, I can't wait to see him. Even though he'll be growling and wanting to bite everyone, I'll be so happy to get him back. My husband thinks I'm a little looney for stressing so much. lol ... that's probably why my cats like me more than him :)

I completely understand. My girls are 15 years old and one (the one in the pic) has started down the path of kidney disease. We have changed her diet, but her years are numbered. Granted, they're elderly anyway, but have always shown signs of excellent health, until now. In any case, they have been my children and my life revolves around making sure they're well cared for. I had taken her to the vet recently for a dental and I was a worried wreck all day. She's been sedated before, so I wasn't worried about that aspect, but just the fact that she's going through a rough day without momma had my stomach in knots. When I picked her up, the vet offered to keep her overnight if I wanted since she was still a little woozy, but since the vet wasn't needing to monitor anything specific, I opted to bring her home. My only thought was rescuing my baby from a scary place and letting her recover on her own bed and do my best to comfort her with cuddles. It's not always fun or easy doing what you have to do to keep them healthy. I'm sorry that you and your buddy have to go through this. Hopefully this surgery will be his last and he can live a long life pain and drama free.
  • Oh my gosh that is excatly how my cat it lol. I cried when I had to leave her when she had surgery. I felt like a horrible mommy I have had her almost 5 years in October she was dropped off at the police department I work at. She is like your cat when I am sleeping and she feels like I should be up she jumps on my back becasue I sleep on my belly. She follows me everywhere in the house. She hates other people she hisses and bites at other people. I am sorry your baby is having to go through this but just keep thinking that this will help him and he probably won't have to go anymore.

I am so sorry. poor kitty. and poor you too.

i have hated leaving my cats at the vet. even though you know they are being cared for by people who know what they need. (need not want, of course)

this week was my turn though. i was in the kitchen fixing breakfast for myself, the cats were in other parts of the house.
i passed out (irregular heart beat) & both cats were concerned and there with me when i came to.

(i'm fine. but it is nice to know they worry about me too)

This is soooo bizarre!!!! I work at a Police Department (Police Dispatcher), someone dropped him off at the PD too. They brought him in from a piece of crap apartment complex in the area. The sad thing is a crazy lady brought him in a plastic bag. Our cats might be a clone :)

My guy is Bucky. He's the same as Jasmine. It doesn't sound weird at all you two are close, I know how you feel!!! If I am sad, or not feeling well he knows there is something wrong and won't leave my side. He is also a LARGE and long cat, lol. Last time at the vet he was 19lbs. He's just an overall big cat :) Bucky's sister (Dandie) gets a little jealous sometimes and has to jump up too and get attention. :)
