  • I dunno what I started at. I dunno what 1rms are. My 5 rep work sets are up to 355, 285, 195, 140. Gonna try for 1rms this afternoon and Friday.
1RM= One rep maximum. a weight you can get up once... like your personal record.

Look up 1rm charts online (http://www.criticalbench.com/chart.htm) to compare your lifts and find a theoretical 1RM. I personally dont max out on bench, I know too many guys who have ruined their shoulders. Theoretical is fine for me. I will be happy when I can do 275x8 for 3 sets.

lol i meant i don't know what MY 1rms are because I haven't tested. I have done theoretical based on 5 rep sets, but that is still just theoretical. The fact that i plug in 5x355 and get back 400 doesn't mean ima walk in the gym and pull 400 off the floor right off the bat ;)

If you can 5 rep 355 and can't pull 400, there's something wrong in your head, not your back. Get that sorted out, and watch the weight rise. :)

I'm not saying I can't just that i'm not gonna jump straight to it

Oh, obviously not. I use 405 for rep work, but that doesn't mean that's what I just roll in and snatch up off the ground first thing.

You need to train for 1RM if you want a real 1RM. Doing sets of 5 and then trying a 1RM isn't going to give you a real indication. I knew a BB guy who could do 405x10 on squats but couldn't do 1 rep of 500. He wasn't trained for it. Meanwhile I couldn't do 405x10 but was hitting mid 500's on my 1RM at the time. Train for the rep range you want to be good at.

As an aside, I think that anyone who tests for a 1RM that doesn't prepare for it over the course of 6-8 weeks isn't training smart. I hate seeing these reports where people have been doing 8-10 reps for a month then want to test 1RM, or even worse, trainers who have their clients do a 1RM test before they have any experience, in order to get a number they can plug into a workout.

Personally I never found those 1RM calculators to be accurate until you got to knowing what your 2 or 3 rep max was, because if you can do a real 2RM, you are closer to being able to hit a good 1RM than someone who does 5-8 reps all the time.

That last one makes you badass enough that the lifts automatically get a 100 pound increase.

I don't currently have the equipment for proper back squats or bench presses, but I am on a deadlifting program, and I train with kettlebells. I have never tested 1RMs on anything, so I'll just list the heaviest I've lifted so far (all for multiple reps/sets):

    Romanian deadlift - 175 lbs
    OH press - 80 lbs
    Double KB clean & press - 2 X 16 kg (roughly 71 lbs total)
    Turkish get-up - 24 kg (53 lbs)

I snatch a 16 kg kettlebell and do swings with a single 24 kg or double 12 kgs.

Well, I've been lifting for a while, but just started madcow's 5X5 this week. My bench has gone up over the last few months, but I don't know my max, really. I can do 55 for 2-3 sets of 5, I know that. I've been squatting light because I'm working on getting my form (going past parallel), and I have a tweaky knee. I have squatted 120 in the past when at the gym with my husband and deadlifted, I think, 135. (I workout at home, usually, so that doesn't happen all that often.)

For my new workout, my last (heaviest) set of 5 looked like this this week, if I'm remembering correctly:
Bench: 60, Squat: 80, DL: 100, Bent Over Row: 80 (but I'm going to go lower and not do the "T-Bar" style for the rest of the program. I can definitely lift heavier T-Bar.), OHP: 45 (for 4). Not all that long ago I was only benching 45 or 50 for more than a few reps, and only doing 30-35 for OHP for more than 6 or 7 reps, and only 2 sets.

Went down to the gym today and pulled 405 ;) OHPed 170 also. Think I coulda pressed another 5-10, but also think trying to power clean another 5-10 woulda killed me somehow...

Interesting that no one has mentioned their bodyweight... But I will, after I convert my down-under kilograms into amerikanos
I've been lifting weights for a good few years now on and off. This is my first time cutting (ya rly) so I'm stalling like an air show disaster, on a 5x5. I figure I have around another 30lb to lose so as long as my lifts don't dive too much that should favour my s/w ratio. I can do 6 strict chins (no kip). Looking forward to pumping them out like the little guys

    Bodyweight: 5'9" 220

    Bench: 5x 245
    Squat: 3x 275
    Deadlift: 1x 360
    OHP: 5x 155

    Squats- 365x2
    Deads- 415x7, 485x1.
    Push Press- 170ish

I don't really keep up with anything else because I always vary my assistance lifts or rep ranges.

I wasn't trying to be insulting, I was merely surprised. The bench imbalance I get, but I've never heard of someone rowing what they can pull as a max, it's a harder exercise.

You can also combine leg and shoulder day and superset your squats with pressing: just squat, and then PBN the bar from there. So much time saved, I wish I could've thought of that.

    I never posted mine.

    Started this week.

    Squat. 145
    Dead 165
    Bench 155
    OVerhead press 90

    All 3x5 working sets
  • only been lifting heavy for about six months.

    deadlift- 475

    squat-405
