Do you have to wear the watch on a PT4 or PT7?

I'm thinking of getting a HRM, either a PT4 or PT7 but I hate wearing watches, rings or anything similar when working out. As soon as the sweat starts flowing, anything around my arms, hands, fingers just drives me crazy.
So I know you need to wear the chest strap, which shouldn't be a big deal as it will be close to my sports bra, but do you have to wear the watch or can you have it in a pocket or somewhere nearby? I really would like to use this for when I'm playing tennis or on the spin bike, kick class, etc.
Thanks for any help

You don't actually have to wear the watch, you can just put it in your pocket. I believe the furthest away from the strap it can be and still read is 3 feet.0

Thanks! That helps make my decision a bit easier.0
