Why??

So this is my first post on the boards. I've been doing my fitness pal for almost two months and thought I was doing so well. I originally thought I was 330 when I started out, only to realize after my first real weigh in that I must have been closer to 340. So last Wednesday I weighed and I was 322.5. Then I went to the dr because I was sick on Friday and weighed 319 (which was done on an old school scale). I had been eating between 1500-1700 calories per day but after I saw 319 I was inspired and started eating around 1200 per day, 1300 max. Today I go back to my normal spot and weigh and I weighed 324. What the hell?!? I've been trying to burn at least 100 calories through exercise 3 days a week. So I don't understand how I gained weight. Please help me out!

So, you're comparing weights from a bunch if different scales? That's kind of a bad situation waiting to happen-like looking at your husband's Internet browser history. While it may not be the 1000% most accurate scale on planet earth, pick 1. And only compare your weight on that one scale. You're looking for trends over time on that 1 scale. If you're bouncing from one scale to another and weighin yourself at different times of day and in different clothes and different this and different that, you really can't compare the numbers you're getting. Stick to one scale-weigh at the same time of day under the same conditions in the same clothing.

Are you eating back your exercise calories? Why dip so low? You were doing perfectly fine where you were. Also, check your sodium levels. That can have an impact on weight.

No I have one scale I usually go to. But when I went to the dr they weighed me and I got excited and recorded that weight. Usually I weigh at a particular scale at a gym on my lunch break on Wednesdays.

I agree with this. You should weigh yourself on ONE scale, ONCE a week, SAME time each time.

Also, try to get out and move a little each and every day, even if it's only stretching for 30 minutes. 30 minutes less on the couch will do wonders for you.

With the 319 weight--I think you may need to take into consideration that you were "sick" during that time. As far as you gaining the addtl 1 plus pounds (I"m basing this from 322.4 to 324), that could simply be H20 or even from working out. Shake it off and keep it moving; you're doing so well! :):):)

I agree with the different scales. Pick one and stick to it. Also, lowering your calories may be detrimental. If you were doing well before, stidk with what works.

1300 is probably not enough calories for you. Your body will go into starvation mode if you don't eat enough. Try sticking to about 1500 a day for a couple of weeks and see if that helps.

I think you need to eat more.

I weight about 100 lbs less that you and I'm still eating way more than 1,200. I'm on 1,700. Go back to your original count and I think you'll see it drop again. :)

Don't over-restrict your calories, love! At over 300 lbs, you can eat a reasonable amount of calories and reliably lose weight without starving yourself and being overly restrictive.

Plus, if you cut your calories too low, you won't have the energy you need to start living a more active lifestyle.

You don't want to be grumpy, burnt-out, have no energy and feel like quitting! Do something sustainable for you .

I can completely understand getting excited about progress and jumping in harder with both feet to try to achieve more of the same only faster. But that's not always the best approach .

Also, congrats on the great start you've made! You're well on your way!!
