C25K success?

I have never run, never been athletic (I'm pretty sure swimming in the ocean doesn't count), but I want to try something new, and try to get some kind of sense of accomplishment by reaching a goal.
So my question is, has anyone had any kind of success with the c25k? and if so, was it only the running, or did you notice a physical difference too? I am thinking about trying it with my dog as a running partner on the beach. Is it really that much harder to run on sand?

i have had success. Bot in running and weight loss. Granted i didn't need to lose much, just a little but i actually dropped "too low" Best advice listen to your body. If it hurts back off a bit rest it and try again. Get fitted for good shoes. I got fitted and had to go get a new pair recently due to my weight change changing how the shoes fit. EAT!!! if you are starving your body is telling you it needs something. If it's a craving for sweets try to avoid it or satisfy it with a couple of nibbles. If it's like a salty craving try to evaluate if you can add a bit more sodium.
What kind of dog do you have? We ran 5 miles with our Australian Cattle Dog tonight. She basically did the C25K so she is used to it. Little turkey is still bouncing around and she is 4 not a pup!

    Good luck!!!!!!!

I actually preferred c210k over c25k. I got up to running 4 miles 3x/week. C210k was easier, IMO - the workout was twice as long, but the gradual increase was easier than c25k.

I never ran(jogged) in my life, but I needed to cross it off my bucket list. I joined the local 'Layzee Runners club' which is uses the same concept as C25k - 12 week interval running program. I'm up to the 7th week running 6min walk 2mins, 3 times a week and my body has changed so much. The scales are depressing but the comments I'm getting from friends are overwhelming and clothes are going down in size.

I really sugges that if you can get a friend to do it with you so on the days that you just dont feel like it your friend will be there for support.

    Good luck

I used to HATE running. I'm on week 8 and loving it. Just follow the program and don't do days back to back (my mistake). For the running parts only run as fast as you need to for it not to be considered walking...a good rule of thumb is that you'd be able to talk to a running partner and not be out of breath. Good luck :)

I'm on week 5 of c25k and today I ran 12 minutes straight without stopping. I couldn't even run 30 seconds before! Before I had kids, I could run almost 2 miles without stopping. I got incredibly out of shape in the last 6-7 years. I think c25k is awesome!

When I began C25K I could barely do one minute.

Same here only on a few days could I do 15-25 mins so I like the 10 with breaks now just finished week 10 and going 4 miles in less than an hour, I have short legs that don't go so fast. I also do a timed 3 mile each week and improve my time each time.

Just put on your shoes and go for it.:flowerforyou:

I have a little mutt, not quite sure what she is, but at 3 years old she looks like a miniature lab, pulls like a pit bull, and runs like a greyhound. When we go to the beach and explore the dunes she runs up and down them and I'm pretty sure her feet don't even touch the ground, she just flies up them.
As much as I want to lose the weight, I really want to lose the inches and get into a shape other than round :)
  • I definitely would not start on sand though. c25K is awesome!! But I would try to start it on a trail maybe or somewhere where there will be less pressure on your joints. You want to be able to train effectively to prevent injury. That was my mistake! I threw myself in there and did too much too soon, and I injured my knee. The meniscus became inflamed, and I had to be off of it for 3 weeks using the RICE method for recovery.

Now I'm running longer distances and doing an interval training program similar to c25K, but I LOVE my trails! Start out small, and see how your body feels. The most important part is to listen to your body, and you'll be great!! :)

Absolutely - I had never been a runner. Ever. Switched from basketball to volleyball in school because it was less running and I stayed on my own side of the court.

I started c25k a year ago, completed it in the allotted time, and I'm still running. And enjoying it!
