New to this please help!

Hi, Im after a bit of advice, I currently weigh 123lbs (I know not mega but I definitely have a lot of body fat) I want to loose a few lbs but mostly want to tone up. Before joining I was what you would call a dirty eater consuming lots of chocolate and junk food but probably only eating roughly 1000 calories.

Anyway Im trying to change my ways and have been trying to eat clean for a week now, I am also doing the 30 day shred and I have yet to loose any weight at all.. My goal is set to eat 1200 calories a day however because of my previous eating habits and the fact that I think its actually my total body fat that is the problem I wondered if this amount is too little/too big. I know many people on here are long time members so just wondered if you could give me a little advice. By the way Im 5ft 4inch and 31.

Many thanks for any help.

  • Since you are trying to just tone up and not actually trying to lose pounds, I would say you may want to try bumping your calories up to maintenance and continue working out regularly... You won't see immediate results, BUT if you stick with it, it will pay off in the long run...

    What she said!

What a great position to be in. I would say worry less about the scales and instread take measurements around your waist, hips, bust, thigh and arm then stick with it. After a month or so of eating clean and working out you will start to see improvements in your body and your muscle definition. Good luck!!

I haven't lost a ton of weight with 30DS so far, but I'm losing inches like nobody's business. I'm also 5'4", but I weigh about 20 pounds more than you. What's working for me right now is: 1360 calories a day (that's .5/week loss), doing 30DS religiously and eating back most of my workout calories so I net a little over 1200 on average. It's helping me break this plateau I've been at for weeks! I'm also trying to elimate my "dirty" foods, too. Good Luck!

look into a decent full body strength routine 3x per week, and focus on eating lots of fruit and veg and lean meat & good carbs

    Thanks guys,

I have just read a post and worked out my bmr and TDEE and have decided to up my calorie intake to 20% less than my TDEE, so I'll see if that works. For me I reckon that 1200 calories is too few, however Im not sure how Im going to get up to 1481 calories, but Im going to try this method.
