Arc Trainer (No HRM vs. HRM)

okay I have been doign the Arc trainer for a few weeks now it says I burn 400 calories in the 30 minutes that I do it. Thats without a HRM.
Yesterday I wore my HRM and did the ARC trainer and added a little more of an incline and resistance. And after my workout I looked at the HRM and it said I burned 500 calories in 22 minutes. I am not sure if that is really accurate.
Anyone else have a cahnge like that when they wore their HRM?
I googled it and it took me to the ARC trainer web page. I put in my info and it said this...
You could burn 485 calories working out on the CYBEX 750AT Arc Trainer at 50% resistance, level 5 incline, 114 strides/min.
so maybe it is correct???

Personally, I would go by your HRM. From my experience, the machines were never the same as my HRM and since the HRM is programmed specifically for you, I would think it would be the most accurate.
What kind of HRM did you end up getting?0 -
Thanks! :-)
I got a timex one for now. I like it so far I have only used it once. So we will see what happens. :-)0 -
and added a little more of an incline and resistance
That's probably the key difference right there. Adding incline and resistance to most any workout can help greatly increase the calorie burn. Walking at 3.5 mph uphill burns about 1.5 times more calories than simply walking 3.5 mph on a flat surface.0 -
This is true. :-)
Thank you!0 -
Just a note that Timex is notorious for giving inflated numbers for women. They don't have separate algorithms for women.0
