Calories burned- AMT Open Stride

I've been avoiding this weird looking elliptical at the gym, but when it was the only one open the other night I decided to try it http://www.precor.com/precor-amt-open-stride It gave me a much higher calorie count than all the other ellipticals I've used- it felt like a more intense workout to me. It said 292 calories in 30 mins, and I did the regular elliptical last night and got 252 calories for 42 minutes.
Does this sound right to you? Yeah, I *could* buy a HRM to know, but I'm not planning to buy one anytime soon.

Bump, because I'm wondering the same thing myself! Can't find any info to support the calorie difference for the Open Stride. I agree that it feels much more intense than a regular elliptical, though!0

Sooo I am no expert by any means but I have just started using this machine and i break a sweat so much faster! I think it has to do with the eliptical being on a wheel based platform. Where as this machine you actually have to do the work to get your stride down. Does this make sense? When you stop on an eliptical you keep going round, where as on this you really don't. You actually have to bring your leg up and out and back (make them do the movement) not just froward momentum.0
