    Ugh.

I've argued with people about the cold water/cold weather/ice bath nonsense. They'll tell you, "Well your body has to work harder to keep your temperature up, so it burns more calories."

    This is true.

But it's like 4 calories. What is wrong with some people that they would rather fill up a tub with ice cubes and sit in it rather than just RUN FOR 2 MINUTES??!?!?!?!

They say, "Well every little bit helps." Dumb. Just dumb.

Expert Tips and Tricks for Boosting Metabolism and Burning More Calories

Here are some of the most recommended (and the most unique) tips and tricks for boosting metabolism, burning more calories and losing more body fat.

1.Eat breakfast - I enjoy it, but I'm not going to say it's necessary...I just feel like **** if I skip.
2.Avoid skipping meals - I would think as long as you are withing your calorie goals you would be fine...but I don't skip meals...makes me feel like ****. Intermittent fasting works for a lot of people...I just don't like it.
3.Don't diet without exercise - Diet for weight control; exercise for fitness...my fitness goals are completely independent of my weight loss goals.
4.Don't eat less than 1,200 calories a day (you may unwittingly lower your resting metabolic rate) - Don't consistently net below your BMR.
5.Eat small meals throughout the day instead of one large one - I do this, but it's personal preference
6.Do endurance exercise - Do cardio for cardiovascular health...this can consist of something as mellow as a walk 3-5x weekly for 30 minutes.
7.Lift weights to build muscle - Lift weights to maintain LBM and make strength gains...can't build appreciable muscle at a caloric deficit.
8.Drink green tea - green tea is good and has many good nutritional properties...but I'm not convinced it does anything whatsoever for weight loss
9.Eat protein with each meal - probably...get .8-1g per Lb of LBM to help preserve said LBM. Ultimately, meet your macro goals.
10.Consume Omega-3 fatty acids (salmon is ideal) - good for heart health and overall well-being...
11.Eat hot spicy food such as jalapenos - I'm from New Mexico...pretty much everything I eat is spicy...I still got fat
12.Enjoy caffeine (in moderation) - I do love a good cup of coffee...not sure what it has to do with weight loss though. The increase in HR is minimal and doesn't last long.
13.Move each day - I always agree with moving more
    14.Stand more - Meh
15.Fidget more - Someone who isn't a fidgeter is going to look weird trying to consciously fidget.
16.Laugh more - Everyone should laugh more just in general...life is funny.
17.Drink plenty of (cold) water - I like staying hydrated
    18.Get plenty of sleep - I wish...I have a 6 month old and a toddler at home...I haven't slept in about 3 years.
19.Do short bouts of high intensity exercise (sprints, etc.) - Meh...I enjoy HIIT, but it's not for everyone...and I only do it once per week or it will f up my lifting.
20.Avoid sugar and alcohol - meh...I love to get my buzzzzzz on.
    21.Consume adequate calcium - absolutely
22.Exercise twice a day rather than all at once - why? I can get a perfectly good lift session in and then go for a walk or something right afterwards...why do I need to split that up?
23.Exercise first thing in the morning - My *kitten*....exercise whenever you can give it 100%+ effort
24.Practice relaxation to manage stress - or do deadlifts and squats...picking up heavy things and putting them down relieves my stress
25.Hang around healthy, active people - meh...I know a couple...but most of my friends are fat and lazy
26.Turn down the thermostat - yes...heating bills are outrageous
27.Spend time outdoors in cold weather - no...I do not like the cold
    and last, but not least...
•Take a cold plunge or an ice bath (burr!) - **** no

I'm going to start fidgeting more. When I watch TV, or at church, at a restaurant. Really you would be surprised how many calories you burn doing that with some ice packs around your ankles to add to the burn!! :flowerforyou:

There IS good advice in that list. Lifting, getting plenty of sleep, moving, endurance exercises...

But this is the advice everyone already knows and LOVES to ignore, because that stuff is hard.

They then focus on "drink cold water, eat spicy foods, live in a cold house" and do those instead, which do nothing. When it doesn't work they say, "Well diet and exercise is just garbage! I'm just not meant to lose weight."

this one has troll written all over it...

and meal timing has nothing to do with metabolism..so eating breakfast will not "kick start it" and skipping breakfast will not stall metabolism...

the rest of that seems BS to me ..there is no magic metabolism food as much as you all would like to believe that there is..

Man I hate the forums! So many rude friggen' people. Sorry OP, you just opened the floodgates for all the #$%holes, who think they know everything, and are unwilling to hear out any suggestions that they don't agree with. I have also heard some of those suggestions, and I do practice some of them. Won't be returning to this thread, so all of you sarcastic, rude folks feel free to attack my post all you like. I won't be reading them. Lol.

Sorry. I forgot the changes they've been making to the site. Allow me to retract my statement.

Yes you can absolutely boost your metabolism sitting in the cold. Eating spicy foods will make you lose weight. It would be rude of me to say otherwise. Any other advice anyone would like to give is also correct.

There. Now I'm sure everyone will have a much easier time hitting their goals.

Raspberry ketones work great. Shakeology is totally worth the price. 1200 calories sure can fill you up, who needs to eat all that?

Pretty much every cleanse on the market is good for you. Toxins fill your body, I don't know what toxins, but they do.

Dr. Oz is a licensed medical professional and would never knowingly recommend useless products just to make money.

If you eat after 7pm you gain 4lbs that night and your grandma dies.

Now none of this may be true, but that doesn't matter. You have to agree with me or you're rude. Welcome to MFP.

And to the OP and the person complaining about "rude" people - I didn't see any rude answers. I saw a lot of disagreement with your post and a joke about Dr. Oz. Where, specifically, was the rudeness?
