What times are the weight room not packed?

I know Mondays and 5pm onwards are bad ideas for using the weight room in a busy gym.. what times at your gym do you like to go workout and be able to have room and use the squat rack or any other machines that are usually in use?

If I go right now I know there will be people everywhere its 5pm now I wonder how late I should wait before I can go workout.

I just wanted to add its not a matter of confidence, its a matter of availability of the equipment I want to train with.

Super early or super late. Also, I've found Saturday mornings to be not busy at all.

I like to hit the gym in the morning before lunch if possible. I work from home though, so it's easier with a flexible schedule. Usually late night is also a good time (after 10pm if your gym is open that late).

Friday and Saturday nights. I have the luxury of being self-employed so I can go around 10am... the people who work 9-5 are already in and out, the S.I.P people aren't up yet. I pretty much have free reign from about 9:30-11:30am.

My gym is 24 hours so I can go pretty late if I want but I am in bed by 9pm and up at 5 for work.

The 5pm rush.. does it taper off at say.. 8pm?

I was at the gym at 8am this morning and it was gloriously unpacked. It makes me look forward to when I have to quit my job once my daughter gets out of school for the summer so I can hit up the gym and attack the weights I need. :)

9-11am weekdays, sunday all day, or after 9pm any day. Saturday, I try to avoid the gym.

At my gym, any time that isn't 6:45-7:15am, lunch or right after school or work is generally ok. Go right after high school lets out at your own peril. The after work crowd tends to thin out by 8.

I am at the gym by 7:30 a.m. and it is nice an empty (same 7 or 8 people there everyday) but yeah 5 p.m. at my gym is a nightmare. Normally clears out some after 7 p.m. but I prefer the mornings myself...

At my gym 1pm-3pm is dead. I also live in a neighborhood with a lot of churches so Sunday morning its me and like two other heathens.

Not even trying to be mean, but how am I supposed to tell you what time your gym is less crowded? Shouldn't you be asking people at the front desk? Or other members?

I'm a student so I go in the middle of the day, and it's never that busy, but obviously that won't work if you work full time.

I have also been Friday and Saturday nights and it was dead in there. I guess everyone has something better to do, lol! Sometimes me and hubby have "date night" at the gym!

Says the guy with the January start date.... :)

I agree with PPs, depends on the gym. My old one had a lot of students so 3 pm was a steady stream of people my new gym has a lot of people training for competition, so first thing in the am and after work hours are busy.

Friday Saturday evening seem to be quite busy. I suspect some are getti g their "pump" on

Monday is the busiest day at gym. Most people lift monday wed friday. I lift tuesday thursday sat and find it much less crowded for benches, squat rack as it it most lifters rest day.

If your gym scans your card then chances are they have all those statistics you're looking for. Just call them and ask!

My gym is crowded between 5am-7am on weekdays unfortunately. Sucks because I wake up early, drive to the gym in the cold dark, and then I get there and BAM! There's all these freakin people working out already. How dare they.

9 to fivers ruin the gym. And then at night you got the community college meatheads who take afternoon classes the next day.

11am is when all the retired folks or homemakers work out, god bless em.

My husband goes at 5 am, right when his gym opens. I've gone with him a few times, it's not busy then.

    5 am

I'm there with my wife at 5:00am every week day and we never have a problem getting to equipment. The crowd is different as well, it seems the people are friendlier in the morning, we have actually made a lot of gym friends who go in at that time.

One of our friends tried going at peak rush, 5:00pm, there were waiting lists for cardio equipment and he couldn't get on any of the weight machine he wanted.

Mine's always empty during the day because I use my college's gym and everyone's in class. But after 5 is my favorite time because you can park in faculty spots which is convenient.

5am is when all the mature folks shuffle in to get in their quickie before work and the kids/spouse wake up. They are usually the ones whose body definition hasn't changed in years. They use the same boring cardio machine every day and never change it up. And they wear running shoes (irony?) and a souvenir white t-shirt (i.e. Hard Rock Cafe Amityville or 2008 Big Willie Style Softball Champs)

From these and previous posts is there anyone at the gym you don't have disdain for?

I've found it to be like what DAYS is it not packed. Seems like people love to hit the gym at the beginning of the week and trickle out as the week goes on.

I workout at 7pm. Monday's suck, Wednesday's are good, Fridays are great. ;)

Schedule was even better when I went Sunday Tuesday Thursday. :)

    Edit:
I'm sure this topic will be helpful to others, but my question was more specifically aimed at the weight room, not the entire gym. I went in there at 5pm today and I couldn't get anywhere near the squat rack so I ended up doing some goblet squats with a heavy weight. I guess the best technique in busy times is to simply improvise and hit your target areas.

I go after work at 9:30pm. There are two guys who cycle through the machines so we don't really interrupt each other.
