P90x Without nutrition

Hi I want to try the p90x lean version of the workout but I am quite fussy when it comes to foods. If I stick to a healthy diet lots of protein veg and good carbs - brown rice etc etc do you think I will still see good results ?

I would also appreciate peoples experiences with p90x :)

Thank you

If you stick to a healthy diet, generally, you will see results. What those results are will depend on the diet and version of the program, so make sure your goals are in line with those two factors. With the lean version, I am assuming your goals are fat loss and/or increased cardio health.

p90x is basically fairly intense cardio from I've seen (I did have a copy around somewhere, though never 'did' it); so it's the 'calories out' part of "calories in vs calories out" - if you've got decent nutrition already, I expect it'll be just as good as what ever they suggest.

    Thank you guys :)

Yes I would generally like to increase my fitness and lose fat / weight

I am also training for a 10k race so run 3 times a week. I am unsure of whether to try this or new rules of lifting for women first.

I've recently taken up 'heavy lifting' and so far am a fan of it.

It's not going to increase your aerobic capacity, which p90x may well help with - but it may help the running in other ways; stronger core and of course just stronger legs.

If you've got the time, you could consider doing both, but may well find that a bit draining.

This is my basic current schedule (though often gets chucked about a bit):
Monday - Weights + Rock Climbing
Tuesday - Running (15k or so)
    Wednesday - Weights
Thursday - Running (hill reps or similar)
    Friday -Weights + Rock Climbing
    Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Running (a bit more gentle - 10k or so)

However - that is reasonably 'stressful' routine on my body, however does mean I've been having less trouble getting to sleep!

    That is incredible :P

I cant believe your easier run is 10k :P
Im training towards that now and cant even make 5k lol
And rock climbing how awesome :)
I imagine I will combine the running and weights and see how it goes :)

    Thank you

    Hello,
I have done many of these programs, including P90X and P90X2. If you eat clean and with the proper portions, you should be fine. As a matter of fact, the nutrition guide for X2 gives a lot leeway as to what to specifically eat and relies more on portion control.

    Hope this helps!

A healthy diet with lots of protein is good, but you should still eat the calorie number the program requires you to eat.. Healthy eating doesn't mean low calorie.

The p90x nutrition guide is a little bit extreme and tony horton even admits it himself. As long as youre eating a generally good diet, you should see results.

With the running it's all about finding a pace you're comfortable with, at least when you get to a certain point - I could walk for 24 hours and still keep going probably.
Gentle jog I could on for hours and hours I reckon, presuming I don't get bored - especially running with people taking regular stops.
While I kept up with the people at the front of the 'medium group' in the running club I joined a couple of weeks ago for the warm up - well, for most of it - was knackered before we even got to the place we were doing hill reps!

Thankfully there's loads of people in the club, so if I find I can't keep up, there's always some a bit further back.

I try not to mix running with weights as the running can hinder muscle growth/recovery etc I believe.

Hi I am doing the p90 x system and I just try to eat healthy. It is supper intense when you start. The first time I did legs n back +ab ripper x I thought I was going to puke it was bad. But now I am starting to really like it!! I did pics for myself before and will continue very 30 days so I can see the changes. I can feel my body changing. I found the hardest part being motivated they are 1 hr + 15 min on an ripper days. I think if someone has it the should try it at least. It is something I will be proud to say I did it!!!!

I am day 40. I love it, i feel so much stronger.

I just got serious about the nutrition component but you will lose as long as you cut back. I lost 4 lbs during phase 1 without making any diet modifications.ff I did I probably would have lost 8 lbs instead.

No need to follow the diet guide to see results, just eat clean and your body will change ccordingly.

I don't have experience with P90X, but I am currently doing BBL which is also by beachbody and I'm a vegan, so I really don't follow the nutrition program haha. I think so long as you're getting enough protein (most people get more than enough) and your calorie count is appropriate (low enough to lose weight, not so low you don't develop muscle mass) than I'm sure you'll see excellent results. I know for myself personally, I'm one week in to my program and already I've noticed a major difference in my lower body strength!

I did 2 rounds of P90X and dropped 48lbs. I didn't follow the diet plan, I think their calorie recommendations are too high. I ate fairly clean and made sure I got enough protein. When I started to bonk, I upped the carbs a little. Mostly stuck to a 40/30/30 plan. It's a great program....it transformed my body and got me in great shape. You will get great results if you eat clean, get enough protein, count your calories and do the workouts as scheduled.
