18 lbs in two weeks

I have lost 18lbs in two weeks on the P90x program. Thank you to myfitnesspal. This is such a great tool. My goal is to lose 60lbs in 3 months.

unfortunately I tried it too but caved. But this was a few months ago and since then I have lost some weight. I cant seem to do any push ups or the pull up bar. I figured i lose some more weight esp. on top and maybe I can get myself to actually complete some of it. I hear so many good things about it and yet thought it was way out of my fitness level.
Right now I am doing 60 minutes on the treadmill with a 10% incline. And also I am doing 45 minutes of Slim in 6. I thought about P90 which I heard is an easier version of PX90 for those of use who are whimps! Kidding.
Good work, keep it up. Maybe I will someday get to post that I lost some weight doing PX900 -
Okay, I try to be the "nice" person but I have to say this. 18 lbs in 2 weeks doesn't sound safe and neither does 60 in 3 months. Honestly, I'm kicking my *kitten* at the gym and usually only lose 1 lb. per week - granted, if I did more strenuous exercises, I know I could lose faster but don't really care to. I just want you to evaluate whether this is really safe and if that's a realistic goal... when you don't lose 60 lbs. in the next 3 months, what happens then? The MOST you should lose is 2 lbs. per week, which anyone who's lost a significant amount of weight on MFP will tell you... I know people much heavier than myself will lose faster than I do and this is fine, but 60 lbs. sounds ridiculous and completely unsafe and unhealthy.0

I also agree. Are you barely eating anything as well or just eating salads? If you're barely eating anything, you may lose weight, but as soon as you start eating healthy again and stop using that program, you will gain it all back if not more... You should set up realistic goals like maybe 8 or 10 lbs a month? Like Arielle said, you shouldn't be losing more than 1-2 pounds a week as it can be very unhealthy.0 -

Before you start ripping into this guy too much, there are some questions you need to know the answer to:
1) How much TOTAL weight does he have to lose? The more overweight you are, the quicker the first pounds can fall off (for some, not all)
2) Is he under a physician's care? If he is, and his doctor has ok'd this then no problem.
3) What is his net intake for the day? How many calories is he eating? How many is he burning?
If you know the answers to all 3 of those questions, then you are more prepared to pass judgement on what he's doing. My BIL lost his first 30 lbs in 30 days. Crazy right? Wrong. He was under careful doctor supervision. He was eating the calories recommended by said doctor, and overall he had almost 200lbs to lose. There ARE instances where quick weightloss like this IS possible, and fairly healthy. Is that rate of loss sustainable? No. Is it recommended for someone with only 60lbs to lose? Not usually (again, the doctor thing).
MikeEstrada- Congrats on the loss! Remember that this is a life style change, and the quick loss you see at the beginning may not be sustainable for the full three months. Stick to your program, check in with your doctor, and stay healthy!

If this person has 200lbs to lose and can still do P90x koodos to them. I have 60lbs to lose and it is difficult for me. I am not judging this person only voicing concern for their health

I too cannot do to many pull ups or push ups. But I go untill I cant go anymore.I also use the bands if I cant go anymore. Yes I am sore everyday, but it feels good. Try it again and don't get frustraited you will get better.0

Thanks for your opinion. I am working really hard to get fit. My calorie intake is under 1500 per day. I eat about 7 meals a day. I am just eating the right foods now and sometimes its hard to eat it all. My workouts are 1- 1 and a half hours a day, seven days a week. Also I ama truck driver so I am burning calories all day working. The biggest thing is no more fast food, no more soda and no more beer. Most of my meals are veggies and fruit with fish or broiled chicken. And yes I did ask my doctor for advise. I started at 240lbs now i'm 222 today. And to answer your other question. If for some reason i don't make it. I will just try harder untill I reach my goal. I will post pics in about 60 days. Thanks for any support.

You'll find sooner or later that 1100 is not enough. p90x recommends more, as does MFP. Not judging, just saying at some point 1100 will cause you to lose muscle mass as well.0 -

I agree with you, that's a danerously low number for anyone, let alone a man whose 200+lbs, cripes, i'm 5'3 and 110 and I eat 1650++ right now, and losing...and it's all healthy food, you'd be surprised how many healthy foods have lots of calories as well. it's stupid easy for me to attain 16500 -

I was just going to write the same thing.
I myself is on the way down from 450+ lbs and I go to the doctors every two weeks to see her and my dietist and physio threapist and they monitor my progress every step of the way.
The reason I am on this superfast weightloss program is that I used to be very fit but due to injury I have not worked out in many years and finally got the doctors ok to start so I am eager to go back as fast as I can.
I am loosing around 2 lbs / day currently
So there is a lot of merit to your saying, how much weight we have to loose etc.
A word of caution however is always adviced when rapid weight loss is at hand, there is a very thin line between healthy and unhealthy weightloss so just be careful out there.0 -

I just want to say well done on your loss, you are obviously putting in the effort and its paying off. A lot of this weight is probably from a change in diet (such as giving up beer) so really well done. But I would like to urge caution in keeping your calories so low. Yes, it is a lot of food if you eat the right kinds - but its not enough for your body needs. I have learned the hard way that you have to fuel your body correctly or it wont cope. I am currently really ill and unable to work out at all. Sooo frustrating to not have been in the gym for three weeks, especially when I see everyone on here so excited about exercise. I was eating around the same calories as you and the weight was coming off, I was also doing extensive workouts (burning on average 1000 calories per work out) and not eating any exercise calories - my body could not cope and its made me really ill, which I think is a way of making me stop and take stock. When you exercise you put stress on your body and when you reduce your calories you put even more stress on the body and thats why its important to correctly fuel. I now have 1400 calories plus any exercise calories (even a gentle stroll, which is all I can do right now) and I hope I wont get ill again. When I go back to the gym Ill be cutting back my work outs to an hour 3x a week too. Its really not worth compromising your health. However, that said, I understand we dont see the dangers until its forced on us so I will say if you are determined to carry on as you are then make sure you take a good multi-vitamin because your body cannot possibly be getting all the vital nutrients and vitamins it needs on 1100 calories.0

I love all of the comments regarding the P90X. My question is what did you purchase from the website. Didi you buy the exercise program? It seems a little expensive by the time you pay the three installments. I'd love to do it but am also wondering how it caters to everything else you have to do to get in shape. Feedback please...0

I purchased the program from craigslist. Bought it for under $100.00 . Check out craigslist in your city. You will probably find one that someone is not using.0

Mike - Just a heads up. Your body is adjusting right now and 18 pounds in the first couple of weeks is because of your body coming off the fast food, cola and beer. I bet that the weight lose will slow down a lot once your body gets use to the amount of calories you are taking in now. That is why I suggest you take that calorie intake up to at least 1600. I'm right at the weight you are now and lost 44 pounds the last 3 months. The first couple of weeks the pounds just fell off and then I started losing 2 to 3 pounds a week after that. I am taking in between 1500 to 2000 calories a day depending on my exercise that day.
Keep up the workouts on P90X and eating good.0 -

I started on about 1100 when I began MFP. I'm 6'0" and was 182lb. I moved up to 1200 after a couple of days and found it a huge amount of food (despite previously eating much more calorie wise). It took me a few weeks before I reached my first plateau and that's when I moved up to 1400. Later, I moved up to 1800, then when I found my weight loss slowing, went down to 1600.
Of course this is all NET calories. My total calories were always closer to 2000. Now, I have 3 months worth of data to look at and for the next couple of weeks I'm aiming at 1450.
My point is that although I agree 1100 is too few and unsustainable, just because Mike is doing that now doesn't mean he'll keep doing it. I think people can point out these sort of things a slightly more encouraging way than I've seen in this thread, where a guy has had great success and is rightly proud of it, and he's just had his head bitten off (I assume that isn't deliberate, but it does come across that way).
Anyway, Mike, good job, good luck, and don't be afraid to increase your calories when you're ready (and don't take too long getting ready). I recommend increasing in small steps (say 50 cal increments, twice a week). That way you can see the effect it has before the effect is too great0 -
60 lbs in 3 months isn't bad that's like 20 lbs a month... 3 or 4 lbs a week or so ... that's about how much i have been losing a week since I started counting my calories at about 1200 a day and working out for an hour at the gym 6 days a week. However the whole 18lbs in two weeks is a little unbelievable but this person could have drastically and dramatically turned their diet/exercise regimine around and it can happen and you can totally understand if you've done P90X before like I have. But they wont continue losing 9 lbs a week obviously. But mainly what I wanted to say is 60 lbs in 3 months can be done safely0
