Hello, I am new here and I am on the my fitnesspal.
I am eating roughly 900 calories a day.
BFast- Oatmeal (100 Cals)
3 to 5 cups of green tea in the morning.
Lunch- Salad with Lite French dress, no meats.(200)
Snack- Orange (70)
Dinner- a Protein and something green or soup.(600 to 700)
I am a walker and usually walk about 2 to 3 miles and that takes off about 350 calories according to my stopwatch.
Is there more I can be eating or eating better? I have tried to cut out bread and fried foods. I still like to have a couple beers on weeks (is that bad).
I went to the Dr and found I lost 46 in a year with not much exercise and making simple switches to my diet. I started at 336 and last week was 290. I saw this and now want it to be 220, I know it wont happen over night, but I want to see results to hardwork.

How did you possibly gain 65 lbs you need to lose?
Trolling perhaps.0 -

You can add fruit to your oatmeal, add a protein to lunch, maybe a mid morning veggie snack. You would easily be at or above 1200 calories. More protein is better. Also, not sure how you feel but i prefer to have a bunch of smaller meals than one large dinner. Protein, veggie, rice in the right portions can easily be right around 300 calories. (Of course, my meals are grouped pretty close together since I only eat for 6 hours of the day give or take).0

Higher cal dressing on salad, fruit snacks, nut snack, snack bars, soup or something bulkier calorie wise for lunch. Very easy to up cals0

Add fruit and nuts to your oatmeal.
Add some king of protein to your salad: meat, tuna, hard boiled egg, tofu chunks, nuts, anything really. Get rid of the lite french dressing in favor of a vinegarette made with olive oil.
Have some cheese with your orange.
Cook your protein and or your veggie with a healthy oil, or add avocado.0 -
I ate 1200 calories for lunch yesterday!!
Yes, eat more. Add nuts. Add meat (if you aren't vegetarian). Add beans. Eat a spoonful of peanut butter. Why cut out bread? It's not bad. Carbs are essential. Eat more.

Friend me if you want, my diary is open to pals. I do NOT support low calorie diets, but I do support those who are uneducated on the dangers of it and those who are aiming for health.
BTW - I'm female, 33, 5'8" and weigh 161. I've lost more than 30 pounds eating 2000 calories a day for the past six months.0 -

Add some eggs to breakfast. Add an avocado and go full fat on the dressing for your salad. Eat some cheese or nuts as a snack. Saute your dinner greens in butter. Peanut butter for dessert.
It's not that hard. Just eat more.0 -

You definitely need to eat more. Goal means GOAL - something you're supposed to achieve, not come short of. Protein needs to happen and every meal, and with snacks too whenever possible, not just dinner. Add some Greek yogurt to that oatmeal, eat eggs some mornings, toss some meat & avocado in that salad. Dip sliced apples in peanut butter for snacks, eat a handful of nuts fora snack, and/or toss them in your oatmeal with that yogurt - super tasty. Ditch the lite dressings and any "diet" foods.0 -
As a man, your minimum daily calories should be more like 1400 or 1500 a day, not 1200. Please work on trying to eat more!!
Snack on calorie dense foods like:
hard boiled eggs
nuts or seeds
nut butters
dark chocolate
rice, pasta, bread
Add a banana and/or berries to your oatmeal
Add cheese and meat to your salad.
If nothing else, you really need to increase your protein intake. With any calorie deficit, you risk losing muscle mass as the body will sometimes turn to that for energy instead of fat. If you eat plenty of protein (at least 100g/day) this is less of a concern.0 -
I call Troll.
I can't wrap my head around a relatively large MALE consuming 900 cal a day and burning off 350.
No... just no.0 -

This!^
More protein ....
Re: beer. I wouldn't cut out anything that you are not going to cut out forever. Super restrictive diets don't teach you how to "maintain" a weight loss. Someday you will "not be on a diet."
The process of losing weight should be a learning experience ..... I need to learn "how I can incorporate foods I love" ..... and still be the weight I want to be.0 -
Totally agree with others, you're not eating enough. You are throwing your body into starvation mode where it wants to hang into every calorie it can. You body may even be burning muscle & retaining fat. I deal with this issue myself so can relate to how frustrating it is to try & find that happy medium for your body. My body likes extra protein best so that's where I pick up extra calories. You may need to experiment a little to see what works best for you. Good luck :-)0

You are not eating enough, especially if you're not eating exercise calories back. Eat more! (And honestly, you can eat fried foods and things that are considered 'not healthy' and still lose weight. Just keep it minimal)
> Eat more
> Move more
> Eat those exercise calories
> Lose weight healthily0 -
Those couple of beers must get you mega tipsy if all you eat is 900 calories per day!
Listen to all the advice above.0 -
Thanks. I am just starting on this change, so my body hasn't broken down from the lack of calories. I figured it would happen, as I am only a week in.
I have changed from video gaming after work everyday to walking the dog 2 miles, eating dinner, walking another mile, and then video gaming.
I do have unsalted peanuts next to my desk at work, so that could add an additional 100 to 200. I also go out either Friday or Sat for a couple beers, a couple could lead to 8 or 9.0 -
Definitely work on getting those calories up. I'm a 44 year old 134lb woman and I eat twice what you do in a day, and I'm losing the fat at that intake.
Have a read through this topic - great info and links to tools to calculate how much you should be eating: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-120
