Do hunger hormones make us fat?

Does anyone know of a counter argument to this article that claims that brain cells and hormones in our stomach lining control our impulses with food?

After gastric bypass surgery, it is said that the hormones ghrelin and PYY come into balance, and thus turn a compulsive over-eater into a sensible eater who is at ease on a moderate diet.

The article indicates that the bypass' success isn't related to the stomach's reduced size not stretching to accommodate a full meal, but instead the success is due to a re-balancing of hormones that make one feel hungry or full.

Is anyone else intrigued by this?

For several years there have been theories that hunger is caused by hormonal triggers in the body, not always by nutritional need. Intermittent Fasting makes use of this idea. Eating creates hormonal responses. When people fast they tend not to get hungry. If during the periods when they do eat they limit themselves to reasonable amounts of healthy food they often lose weight.
