HELP. I'm dumb. I work out but binge eat the calories back.

I'm on Day 3 of Insanity. I do bootcamp classes, personal training, zumba, DDR, bellydancing, running, and weight lifting. But I'm still FAT. I can't stop binge eating and so all my efforts to lose weight are wasted :( I don't want to break even anymore or keep juggling these same 5-10 pounds.

What do I do? What has worked for you? I feel like a weirdo test rat that has had some chemical altered in its brain and while all the other rats around me are pressing the lever for food only when hungry, I'm the fatso rat, waddling over to the lever, permanently holding it down while being showered in cheddar.

Yeah...I was a psych major...

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Insults?

  • One day at a time girl, try to figure out what's causing the binge. My guess is its probably not hunger

Are you eating your allotted calories at regular intervals and in sensible options? Are you drinking plenty of water? Are you using food as a medicine for something else?

I eat back my calories, but I try to use sensible options, and treat it like fuel food. Don't give up! You're trying--because you're working out, but you do need to get to the root of the binging. I would venture to guess that binge eating isn't new to you!

Just stop. It's not worth it. If you are working out that hard why are you sabotaging yourself? Start making better choices when reaching for food and stop buying the junk. It really is mind over matter. Whats more worth it to you...losing the weight and getting to where you want to be or the entire bag of chips?

How bad you want to lose weight? Can't force it if you don't want it bad enough. No one is going to give you a quick fix on how to stop binging, because there isn't one.

I do this on occasion...it sucks. What works for me is completely abstaining from foods that I know will set me off...usually sugar, and not the fruit kind. When you feel snack-ey, try eating raw carrots, or plain yogurt...those are my go-to foods for in-between meal snacking. It's hard to overdo it on those. Drink a lot of water, and know that with each day that you make it without "cheating" it gets easier and easier.

What triggers your binges? Do certain foods make a binge more likely, is it time of day, is it being at a particular place? If it's a particular food, well, keep them out of the house. If it's a particular store/restaurant, avoid it. Time of day is trickier (especially night), but if you can keep yourself out of the house around then it might be easier. Eliminate the lever, as it were.

I know some people who say that pre-logging what they plan to binge on can help them not binge, or at least cut down what they planned on eating.

And I agree with MrsGutierrez1 - there's probably a reason why you're binging. Figuring that out will help you overcome it.
