Screw You, Sugar--In need of a Challenge.

I am so mad at myself. I KNOW how bad sugar is for you---that it's ridiculously addicting...yet, I have let it rear it's ugly head back into my life, ugh!!! It came back nonchalantly, at first--coffee creamer, "light and fit" yogurt, "sugar free" oatmeal, various dairy products, "granola bars". The list could probably go on. I'm not real sure about the MFP settings regarding the amount of sugar it allows individuals each day, but, every time i view someone's food diary (MYSELF CERTAINLY INCLUDED), everyone is over their sugar level by a lot.

I do believe that a person should have natural sugars from fruits and vegetables. But, I need to do something about these creepy crawlers that are sneaking their way into my diet and making my blood sugar level sky rocket and putting a wrench in my cravings and peace of mind. It starts tomorrow---I mean it has to---I've already screwed up today, lol. If there is a NO SUGAR challenge, I want in, and if not, I want to start one.

Also, I find if I'm reading literature about health and well being, then it makes it easier to keep it at bay...so any recommendations would be fantastic!

I hid my sugar so I don't have to look at it; it was too depressing seeing that I am always eating too much fruit. If it takes some extra fruit to stop me eating a big bag of gummies or a couple chocolate bars, then too bad for the MFP sugar counter.

I love sugar. I like it in ice cream and candy and sometimes I sprinkle it on my fruit.

But then it all fits in my macros for the day :drinker:

To curb blood sugar spikes, include protein and fat at each meal and snack. Also, exercise regularly. Sugar isn't bad for you... living on it might be, though.

Sorry, there is no point in hiding how much sugar you eat - it's just sticking your head in the sand. Fruit is fine when it's not dried (this concentrates the sugar in what is left). Processed foods have added salt and sugars as well as other rubbish to make it taste good, as do a lot of low fat foods. Prepare your own from scratch so you know what is in what you eat, or become an avid reader of labels. Only then can you truly know what you are eating, and even then labels often lie to present the facts how the manufacturer intended! Banish the sugar!

i know how good i feel when i don't have it in my body. no crazy spiked cravings and i don't feel jittery. i run a lot, approximately 50-100 miles a month, so my body definitely craves carbs, especially on like a 10 or more mile day. but, i really have to cut the stuff that comes in a package out...it's just i really love my coffee creamer, not going to lie. and, that just starts off my morning with a whopping 14 grams of sugar---CRAZY!

I don't bother tracking my sugar. As long as I eat a balanced diet then it is not necessary to worry about it. Sugar is not bad for *me* as it does not trigger cravings. It may be bad for your adherence because it triggers eating that is bad for *your* adherence to your diet.

My DR told me not to worry about sugar as most of mine comes from fruit.

I challenge you to set a reasonable calorie target, and hit your protein and fat macros every day. The sugar(carbs) will by definition work itself out.
  • Hide your sugar intake. I don't eat any sugar or sweeteners, and I still go over the MFP intake every single day... from fruit alone. There's no reason not to eat as much fruit as you want.

Ok---reasonable calorie target according to who? I get like 4 or 5 different numbers from MFP, my FitBit, and a few other formulas where I'm supposed to simply "plug" in numbers. I don't even know what's reasonable anymore, lol. I know that when I don't hit a certain amount of calories the day before i do a big run---i'm sucking wind and have noticed other similar patterns regarding performance and diet. i definitely have been trying to increase my protein, adding it as much as possible with chicken, eggs, protein shakes, fish, etc...again, i struggle with, well how much protein should i take in 100
150? i don't know, it's been trial and error at this point.

Sweet tooth here! Try switching to flavored coffee with half and half.

I've changed my focus to having a balanced and delicious diet and I make a conscious effort to include protein and veg at each meal---this helps me have a positive goal instead of a negative. I also try to include fruit like an orange with breakfast, a half an apple after lunch, berries in my salad, fruit/veg smoothies as a snack---bulking up my meals with healthy stuff. Each day I have a realistic portion size of sweets once or twice ---I know eating half gallon of ice cream is over kill but planning to eat a 1/2 cup serving is a set up for failure. Planning enjoyable meals helps. I find when I am tempted to overdo it, its usually mealtime---so planning meals I enjoy curbs my desire to keep going into over indulging mode

My goal is to reduce my sugar intake over the long term by putting an emphasis on health and its working for me. Hope this helps!

    And I'm a pastry chef!
