I still have pizza almost every week. Sometimes I make it from scratch with whole wheat (or even cauliflower crust), measure out the cheese and add lots of veggies, pretty healthy. Sometimes we get takeout pizza and it's loaded with sodium and higher calorie. I also have Chinese food (which would be OK if they'd hold back on some of the sodium) and pasta pretty often. I had ice cream the other day. I fit it all in my calorie goal so I don't plan to give any of these up.

I consider peanut butter a healthy food. Same with dark chocolate.

Soda was never a regular thing for me, but I haven't had it in months now. I used to have juice more often.

The only three things I deliberately cut out (used to have frequently):
    - Taco Bell
    - Starbucks
    - Great big deli sandwiches

I haven't given up anything and I don't plan to. But I DO choose a healthier way to get the same thing most of the time. Instead of going to Wendy's and getting a large fry, I bake some crinkle cuts in the oven. Do burgers with leaner beef in the George Foreman (or do turkey and/or chicken burgers instead).

The one thing I can't seem to give up is fettuccine alfredo. And that's something that's really hard to get healthy and have taste as good as the bad stuff. So that's a treat for once in a great while. :)

    Love this.

    Hard cheese. Sob.

Can't control myself with it so can't have it in the house.

I haven't given up anything - I just keep it within my calories for the day. There's no need to deprive yourself of the foods you love, you can still fit them in and make it all work.

have you looked for healthier alternatives or do you ONLY account for the extra calories?

I try to find a healthier version if I can, but for those times I want the real thing I just plan it into my diary. For example, tacos are one of my most favourite foods in the world, so this week I made taco salad instead (sans tortilla and sour cream).

Mayonnaise, most dips, and salad dressings. But especially that mayo - it's like I can't make a sandwich without it, and I pretty much love a good sandwich. Went fat free on the other dips and dressings, but mayo is hard to overcome.

I've heard people say you can use Greek yogurt but the idea terrifies me.
  • 90% of the bad foods out there you can get the alternative or make it low calorie and healthy
the one item i have not mastered in the low calorie is wine. i love it and work hard to fit it into my diet :)

A local bakery makes a chocolate almond croissant.... I have no pretenses of giving those up permanently. I don't eat them often and, when I do, I do my best to compensate for the calories by cutting elsewhere. But my life wouldn't be worth living it I had to spend it without ever having another La Boulangerie chocolate almond croissant.
