2 weeks without the gym

I've been sick with pneumonia for the last 2 weeks and not able to go to the gym. I'm going to start again on Monday :) I normally run 6 miles a day with elliptical and strength training (strength training twice a week with personal trainer).
When I start again will it be hard, or will it be great because of the extended rest? Should I start off slow, or jump right back into it?

    I assume you mean pneumonia?

I'm weird- I had pneumonia when I was in my 40s and worked out anyway- just cut back my workout significantly. My suggestion (and I'm not a doctor): listen to your body. Start out light and easy. You know your body well enough to distinguish between garden variety "I don't wanna do this" whining and the more urgent "I cannot take this and if you keep it up you'll be sorry later". As long as you're still feeling good, gradually increase length and intensity. Cut back if you start feeing sick or tired.

You may also want to talk with your doctor although he/she may give you an answer that's on the conservative side.

Listen to your body. I had pneumonia last year and my first week back I had to significantly decrease my intensity to make it through my workouts.

i highly doubt you'll be able to go as hard as you normally would. your lungs have been through a lot of trauma, and you probably have lost a very minimal amount of LBM for not being able to work out (and i'm also assuming not doing much moving around and probably lying on the couch a lot). maybe do half of what you normally would do on the elliptical, and knock down all your weights by 5 lbs/1 kilo to help avoid DOMS

I'm assuming a "deload" week is a sort of body rest week. Totally different from 2 weeks fighting pneumonia.
