Hi so as a challenge for lent I've being working to eat healthier so it can benefit my lifestyle change and habits in the long run however lately I noticed by cutting chocolate and stuff I tend to have 2-3 mcvitites biscuits with my tea in the evening, I was reading an article in a magazine today and it said if you carry a lot of weight around your midsection to stay away from things like refined carbs altogether, thus even if i'm within my calorie limit am i counter-acting my weight loss by eating such biscuits?...
Also does it have to be whole wheat flour to be good for you?....and is vegetable oil a trans fat? Just general concerns I hope people can help me with, feeling really beat up about this weight loss I feel like i'm going good and then I realise I could be eating all the wrong things for the goal I need to achieve which really is to loose the fat on my upper section
Thanks for any advice!

Myth. Avoid trans fats because those are really bad for you but just about everything else is fair game. The only other restrictions are don't eat food you're allergic to, that is expired, etc.0

I'm not sure if I would trust a lot of magazine articles for health advice. Refined carbohydrates are empty calories and in general it is better if someone eats whole grain, high fiber foods than processed, white sugary stuff that is low in nutrients and will leave you hungry an hour later.
I also store weight around the middle and I think weight loss is just calories in, calories out - although I've noticed that the foods I eat will affect my energy levels, which in turn affects the amount I burn for the day and the rate of weight loss.
You can probably make healthier deserts by substituting whole wheat flour or unsweetened oats processed in a blender instead of white flour. You can also use a sugar substitute like Stevia, egg whites instead of full eggs, extra virgin olive oil instead of regular oil or unsweetened applesauce in place of the fat.
Trans fat is when manufacturers chemically alter their fats to have a longer shelf life. If you avoid anything that says hydrogenated oil and if you check the label, you should be fine.
Try not to worry too much.0 -
Thanks for the replies and helpful advice.
yea and I always try to go for whole grain over white flour and processed goods, anything that is a simple carb would really be in terms of a snack which I would only have if it is within my calorie allowance
