I've had mine for about a month now and I'm obsessed with it.. I left it home one day and I felt lost.. like as if I left my cell phone and wallet behind.. HOWEVER - I am thinking of getting a heart rate monitor for more accurate calorie burn data because I like using my digifit app to track my actual distance in walk/jogs which calculates calories (and adds twice BTW so I have to go delete one)... I figure I can there has to be a way for them to all sync up somehow.. But I will never get rid of the fitbit, will probably just turn off the bluetooth feature and keep it as a motivator. I get up and moving if I haven't reached my goals for the day. Good LUck!

AND - if any of you have a HRM and use it with digifit apps (like iRunner) and MFP please let me know.. I'd love to figure this all out before I go buy another pricey piece of equipment. Feell free to add me!

DH and I both have FitBit Zips and love them. I've been working out regularly for decades and have a Polar FT7 HRM, too. I like the HRM for more accuracy when it comes to calorie burn/heart rate during my workouts but there are times when it gives me flaky readings (plenty of threads here on HRM difficulties) and the FitBit is pretty much foolproof. I sometimes find myself jogging in place at 9 PM to get the step count up over 10K for the day; I made 15K yesterday. It's a very good motivator, even for those of us already motivated.

It really depends on what you want. I love my fit bit I love the community I have gained many friends I talk to everyday on the community. I am not nearly as anal as some of the people! I don't care if everything is figured to a t, I just want to see improvements, I like having a leaderboard on my page and see me compete against others for steps per day, it keeps me conscious of keeping off the couch and staying active. In the year I have had my fit bit I have realized that being active is so important and I have gotten off of diabetes medication, I have gotten my blood sugar way down to a normal level. Diet is way more important for weight loss than working out, but they are both important. So if you are using the fit bit to get improvement and help keep you motivated it is great, if your want exact figures and want to eat your exercise calories, skip it.
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best hundred bucks I ever spent! Be sure to buy it DIRECTLY from them. They stand behind them 100%. I lost TWO of them and they replaced them!!!!!!!!!!! I was so lost without it!!! I almost had a meltdown today because I left it home when my husband and I sent shopping LOL
Its truly an amazing weight loss/get in shape aid!

I took mine of the other morning to charge it the other morning, and forgot to put it on when I went to work --- I freaked out a little when I went to show it to a friend and the holder was empty :) Once I found it I was just sad that I has no activity record for the day, so I just manually entered a low estimate of my walking.

I got a Fitbit One several weeks ago and LOVE it. It encourages me to exercise, do stairs, take lots of steps, and get enough sleep.

My husband has one too, and we are 'friends' on the FitBit site. Because of this I can see how many steps he takes, and we are in a competition to see who takes more each day. That also keeps me exercising, walking, running, doing the Elliptical.

Yes, I can highly recommend a FitBit.

scroll through this if you have time.. lengthy but a bodybuilder wore both and it has actual screen shots of the differences in calories burned, etc. :)

This was my experience as well. I wore both the FitBit and the Bodymedia device for several days. The FitBit consistently over-estimated my step count by a good 500 steps and under-estimated my calorie count by about 130 cals each day. As an additional measurement, I wore my HRM, Fitbit and Bodymedia and hopped on the treadmill for 45 min. Checked both and the calorie burn from both the HRM and Bodymedia were identical, the Fitbit under reported the calorie burn by more than 100 cals.

I may be weird, but I would prefer that it underestimate rather than overestimate . . . . did you track your body fat percentage as well? I assume it works that into the calculation, and would make things more accurate.

If I lost my Fitbit One, I would probably cry. lol! I love it as a motivator! I only log calories in on MFP and let the Fitbit site sync for my activity out and haven't had any problems. For certain exercises like cycling, swimming and such, you can manually enter the activity and time spent just like here, but do it on the Fitbit site. As long as you do that, everything between MFP and FB should sync nicely :)

I am interested in the bracelet idea, cause as others have mentioned, you have to remember to take it off your clothing before throwing it in the wash and can lose it easily. I wear mine to face my body on the inside of my pants so if it falls off, I will feel it. I have also a small hair band to wrap around it to also secure it. Holding off on the bracelet until I see the reviews...let the other others be guinea pigs :)
