I am desperate to loose fat especially around my belly. I am at a good weight but still have too much fat. All the fantastic results I have seen are from lifting heavy but I have no access to a gym or money for equipment.
So I would love to see what results I could achieve from body weight exercise at home.
I am currently doing nerdfitness beginners routine.

Show me your pics and share your stats!

    Hi

I do a fair few of these - even though it is in a gym! I have a book - You are your own gym - which I got from amazon that my trainer has nicked (so am assuming it's good) - with lots of variations (about ten on push-ups). The only kit required is a band - the type physios use - so you can do pull exercises as well as push.

I can't say they help me lose weight in particular areas - but I did find the other day that I could push a car (plus driver) when one broke down in front of me, which is a testimony. And I can feel muscle definition - sadly still under a lot of flab, but then I need to lose another 50lbs.

Hope this helps and good luck

Gonna bump, I came in here to ask about body weight exercises. Can they really be effective or what?

Anyone know of good ones to try out?

I am doing squats, lunges, planks, press ups, dumbell rows at the moment. Would really love to see some results on other people though.

I"m curious about this as well. As I'm looking to get into a good cardio plan (Insanity, turbofire etc) and also I know I should be heavy lifting but I don't have access to any heavy weights

I did body weight exercises with my PT the other day. I usually lift with weights but oh boy was I sore for a couple of days after doing the body weight excercises. I did 7 excercises of 100 reps so I reckon to really make it effective do lots and lots of reps as you progress on :)

I do mostly body weight and some resistance band exercises. I didn't take any before pictures so I really can't compare to my previous self, but in about a month I definitely see some definition in my arms and my legs feel stronger. Actually, while doing some lunges today, I could really see my calves :) When I wake up in the morning, before I eat, I have some slight definition to the top of my belly where I can see where my top 4 abs are.

I've been attending regular toning classes at my gym for about a month now but the moves in the classes are all designed to be done at home. They include the exercises that you are currently doing plus some more arm work.

Good to hear some are getting results. I am just a beginner so hoping to build up reps. I think i looked at body rock but it looked really hard! Don't think i could do anything close to that. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place?

I do mostly body weight while in training for marathons, in the off season I do more weight though (off season is only a few months out of the year). Lots of planks, squats, pushups etc, plus light dumbbell work (15lbs). I have pics up on my profile.

Hard? Maybe. You want results? Try it and see what you're made of. How are you going to progress if you don't push yourself?

I agree that the "Body By You" book is worth the investment. It's all body weight and you don't even need a band - they demonstrate variations that you can use a towel with. It offers lots and lots of progressively harder variations of each exercise and trust me, body weight exercises can be incredibly effective. I don't have pics to prove it, and I'm mixing in those with some free weights and other stuff (Lebert Equalizer and TRX). But it's good stuff. Worth buying the book.

Do , Stair climbers is what i call them. They work your stomach but more of your thighs/legs. Atleast Iv see progress in my thighs ;) Walk up and down your stairs or any stairs the more the better. You can even use like a low chair? something sturdy and safe. Do 5 sets of 10 everyday ;) will help. If your worried about your legs/thighs at all.
  • i do almost exclusively body weight exercise - hot vinyasa flow yoga and barre fitness classes...the only equipment other than a yoga mat is in the barre classes and that's just 5lb weights, a small exercise ball and a resistance band. maybe get yourself some dvds. i haven't lost a ton of lbs but i've gotten much stronger (and more flexible, and have better balance and posture) and gone down over a size in clothes in two months.

Gonna check this out. I've heard of it and have an insanely built friend who loves it, but I didn't actually know what it was/consisted of.

Glad to see that other people get results from these exercises! It always seems like everyone just says you have to lift weights and if you don't, then you're SOL. :\
