Does anyone know whether the calorie burn shown in a Polar FT-7 HRM for an exercise session is gross calories expended or net calories burned for the specific activity?

Bump. This is great question as I have been thinking about this lately myself. From what I have read it is actually gross calories and not net calories.
Net calories = Gross calories burned - Calories needed to support Resting metabolic rate
I guess one way to test this is the go run or walk a mile and see how many calories you burn while doing that.
Then after cool down see how many calories you burn by sitting on couch (RMR calories) by wearing HRM.0
