How many calories should I be eating while trying to lose?!

I've read a lot of things and I'm generally confused about what my calorie intake should be during this weight loss journey.
Now, I have come to understand that if you don't eat enough, chances are you wont lose. So I'd like to make sure I am eating the right amount.
My fitness pal has set me with 1400 calories a day.
I am about 5'3 and between 175-180 pounds (it varies a lot lately) and 22 years old.
So, is my fitness pal right?
Or is there a solid way I can use to find out?
By the way, I'd like to lose between 1-2 pounds a week.

i'm similar size and stature to you, and i started out doing 1200, and did great at first, but now my losing has slowed down tremendously, so i am upping my calories to 1400. i have a feeling i wasn't eating enough. I've not been here long enough to really advise you on the right amount, but most people on here will probably tell you to calculate your BMR, and TDEE0

I just found a site to calculate my BMR and its 1629, I have no idea what TDEE is??0 -
