Actually makes sense to me. When I was a kid my mom did laundry with an old wringer washer then dragged baskets up the stairs and outside to the clothes line, gathered it all up again later and stood at an ironing board for hours, dishes were all done by hand and she made all our food from scratch along with freezing and canning from our garden. I throw clothes in an automatic washer and dryer with everything being permanent press, dishes in the dishwasher and 1/2 our food comes out of a box.

There is some truth in this definitely, the term is NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis), there's been many recent breakthroughs in determining that just general moving around throughout the day is far better than spending an hour in the gym after work.

I burn far more calories on days that I'm getting ready to host a party than I do on days that I work out--because on those days, I'm on my feet and moving the entire day.
