Today marks 100 days in a row that I've been on MFP. I lost 14 pounds in the first 65 days, and I'm frustrated that the last 45 have been at a standstill, but I'm hopeful that the scale will start to move again soon! Just wanted to share a small success.

Congrats on the first 100 days!

As for your plateau, consider raising your net calories to something like 1350-1450 and maybe cut some of the carbs out of your diet for a week or two. See if you see any improvements! That's what worked for me.

    Good Luck!

100 days...that's GREAT! You should be proud of yourself...staying faithful with your daily logging is a big deal, as sometimes it can be a hassle and sometimes you just wish you can skip logging on those bad days.

About your standstill, just try to vary your workouts--add more resistance or extend the length of your workout...that may help break through the plateau.

Thanks! I actually just started working out 3 weeks ago. Bad, I know, but I didn't have a gym membership and I just now got a treadmill. I lift 5 pound weights and do lunges or wall sits for some strength training and then do cardio an average of 45-60 min. I do this every day of the week burning 450-600 cal per day. I'm eating back almost all of my calories, too (not perfect nutrition, but I do my best. I have my off days particularly weekends. You can look at my diary if you want). Any other ideas? I feel like I vary my workout enough that I should see results soon.

Sparksfly and ByHis strength give the exact advice I would have! Plus, realize that the body desires homeostasis...so it is happy right now with they weight you have lost and isn't interested in giving up more. Hang in there it will figure it out soon enough that it is OK to start losing again. The worst thing you could do right now is to reduce your calories to below 1200.

As I was writing I see your extra comments...sounds like you are doing all of the right things. You could try heavier weights and increasing your proteins

If you plateau the best thing you can do is to change up workout. Your body adapts to your workouts if you do the same thing for too long, therefore your body wont burn as many calories doing it. If you normally run laps try running some sprints mixed in or play basketball. If you do resistance training change up the number of reps sets, and weight. Also if you do resitance training such as weight lifting remember that lower body movements like sqauts burn more calories that upper body movements do. A great way to burn calories and cut weight while doin resistanc e training is through circuit training. I recommend doin it with moderate dumbells and steppers.
  • I agree that you should change up your workout- maybe try some fitness videos and different methods like kickboxing, pilates, yoga, or circuit training. Sounds like you're body has adjusted to your new weight and is burning less calories. Also, if you're within a healthy bmi now, you may need to focus more on toning up vs losing weight. hth!
