Falling off the wagon??

This is my first post (I have responded to a few); I've been a member of MFP for awhile and have been using it diligently since Feb/2010. I have lost 12lbs and have been feeling really good; I also work out with a personal trainer at the gym 3-4 times a week.

Recently, in the last 2 weeks, I have had several cheat nights and I am really scared that I am backsliding. Each time it has been when a friend comes over for dinner, I cook a real sensible meal (baked haddock and roasted red potatoes & asparagus with a spinach salad was last night's meal) but then we have a few drinks or whatever and I get the munchies. She will usually bring a snack, rice crackers and CREAM CHEESE - my arch enemy! Anyways I snack and then when she leaves I will finish all the snacks, just on auto pilot.

I don't normally have snack food in my house; I don't yet have the will power to not eat snacks late at night if they are around. However I don't want to discontinue socializing with my friends and it's hard to speak with this one friend about food as she had an eating disorder a few years back and I just don't want to upset her with calorie counting talk.

Anyone have any tips on how to handle these types of situations? As I said, I am quite scared that i am backsliding and I am so disappointed about that, after all the freaking hard work I have put in to lose these measly 12 lbs!! Thanks for listening...

Ask your friend to bring healthier snacks. Veggies and hummus are amazing together. Or, alternately, when the friend leaves, through the snacks in the garbage. You wouldn't eat from the garbage would you?

Whats more important - your health or possibly hurting your friends feelings??

What a good friend you are! :smooched: Making sure that you don't get her worrying about a previous problem! She's very fortunate!

I don't think I'd ask her to change the food she brings, as that could possibly be the same as telling her to not come OR watch calories. Neither of you want to be uncomfortable!

Yes this is PERFECT advice! As soon as she walks out the door, clean it up and THROW IT AWAY :drinker: No one's feelings get hurt AND you save yourself the guilt trip
    This is so simply brilliant!

Hang in there! 12lbs isn't measley!!! :) You deserve praise for recongizing a possible issue and dealing with it in a positive manner! Kudos!! :flowerforyou:

Yeah - since posting this I have a new perspective, guess I had to get it off my chest!! I should have got up and logged each and every item AS I ATE it last night. Even if it does make her uncomfortable, what's worse that or me putting back on those lbs and feeling horrible about myself??

So thanks for the responses, sometimes it helps just to air out your feelings!!! :ohwell:
