does anger motivate you....

Hi All,

Was just wondering what people do when they are angry/stressed! The other day I got stressed out and it pushed me too do a bit more excercise and I went away and took my anger out by doing weights and it was benificial.

What are some other good - stress releasing options?

:)

When I'm angry/frustrated/stressed/anxious/etc I always go out for a nice long walk and it really clears my head :)

When I'm pissed or stressed out, I definitely hit the gym.

There have been times when I'll finish my workout, and then go..."Nope, still mad. Not ready to leave yet." and do some more.

I try to hop on the treadmill... Walking seems to help me clear my mind because I don't have to pay too much attention to the task at hand...just walk.

If it's actual anger, then yes. I run the **** out of that treadmill.

boxing - without a doubt - the physical act of hitting something and then the benefits of the natural stress release that is exercise - hooray for Endorphins, Serotonin and Dopamine!!!

Insight Meditation. It trains you to acknowledge your feelings. without judging them. For me, anger works only in the short term.

Yes! Working out or biking helps me clear my head when i have a bad day.
  • Depending on the source of of the anger/frustration, it seems weights really take it out of me, I love running and biking, but the more aggressive emotions don't do much for me there.

    I'm always angry.

ETA: I use it for the bench press and deadlifts.

I find that I feel better after a workout fueled by stress or frustration. I have a high paced stressful job and working out after work makes me wind down and then I feel better the rest of the night and don't feel the need to bore my husband to death with "shop talk" as I already worked through it :)

There's a reason aggressive heavy metal music that gets you riled up and ready to punch somebody's skull in is the most popular kind among weightlifters.

Cleaning. When I am extremely stressed and/or pissed off I clean. Not simple cleaning but floor scrubbing, wall washing aggressive cleaning. The good thing about that is my house gets extremely clean and therefore I have less to be stressed about.

I agree with the workout part too. I workout during my lunch break and notice that the worse my morning is the better my workout is. The good thing about that is I get the stress out and return to work feeling much more mellow :)

I have an anxiety disorder and find that working out when I'm stressed lowers my anxiety so I definitely push harder. As for working out angry? I'm one of those blow and and it's over types so I don't tend to hold onto anger for very long. I can see how it would make you work harder though :)

Kickboxing is my fave dr relieving stress! Just punching the **** outta something feels great and really pushes me. Exercise releases feel good hormones called endorphins which will tame anger and stress. So don't get mad, get working out!

Exercise is an excellent method for releasing stress. Just be careful to channel it and not use anger to overdo the weights. You'll pay for that painfully if you do.

When I do heavy bag I picture someone I've come across who probably deserves a beating, and I give it to them. Excellent stress reliever!

    Yes it does!
When I used to go to the gym 2 years ago with my friend, we used to say after a stressful day: Let´s go and torture some machines.
I got rid of my first 20kg that way. :)
