Unlimited $50 phone plans: experience?
Hi all! I'm thinking about going with one of those phone plans through cricket or boost mobile (any others?) where you pay $50 per month for unlimited data, talk, and text. Does anyone else use these services and what has been your experience with them? In particular Id like to hear from people in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, so I can know what the coverage is like. At the moment, I'm thinking of getting the Samsung Galaxy Rush for $99.99 from Boost Mobile, but I may get one of cricket's waterproof phones instead.
My only issue so far is the lack of phones with physical QWERTY keyboards. I have a touchscreen AND slideout keyboard right now...BUt if I'm texting in the rain, a few raindrops get on the touch screen and starts pressing the virtual buttons. But maybe its because my phone is the MOtorola Droid 2, which is an old model...

The only problem with cricket is you can't use it outside of the service area. If you do a lot of traveling don't go with cricket.0

I generally stay within the Maryland, DC, Virginia area. BUt I might end up travelling one day...0

I dunno what my friend does, but he signed up with Wal-Mart for some network. Unlimited data plan/talk/text. He says that the company piggy backs off the AT&T network. So wherever there is AT&T service, then you will get service with that company. He pays 45 a month with taxes0

Does he get good coverage? BoostMobile is an offshoot of Sprint so this must be a similar concept. Maybe T-Mobile?0 -
He says he gets good coverage. Even 4G since he has a google phone.0

I have straight talk from walmart and its pretty good, my phone piggy backs off from sprint but they other phones that work off from verizon network, but yeah it pretty good0

I got Boost Mobile prepaid and bought an HTC Evo Design last September. I've had a great experience with this Android. My husband has an iPhone with AT&T and has had all kinds of problems with it and it costs 3x what my phone does. I thought about getting an iPhone but after his experience and after much research decided to go with this one. I like that the cost drops every 5 months (can't recall for sure) if you pay on time, which I have set up as automatic payments. I like Androids better anyway and don't like to pay a lot of money for the same thing that I can get in a prepaid, but I'm very practical that way. Plus I hate contracts.0

Yes, I think that's the one my friend uses. I knew it piggy backed off of some major network but couldn't remember.0 -

I use Virgin Mobile and I think it uses the Sprint network too. I have no complaints with it.0 -

I've had Boost Mobile for 5 years now. I love it. Yeah, you have to outright buy your phones, but their prices are pretty reasonable for a decent smartphone.0 -
Walmart has the $50.00 unlimited monthly for just about all the phone carriers.
My daughter has Straight Talk and has never had a problem and my son has it thru T Mobile and has never had a problem either.0 -

I get my service through Walmart. They piggy back off of sprint, AT&T, and verizon if I'm not mistaken. My number actually comes up as a sprint #. I've never had any problems with it. It works everywhere.0 -
I have one with t-mobile, and although I'm overall satisfied, my ONE gripe is that although my date is unlimited, my 4g is not. Once I go over a certain amount of data it drops to 2g. BUT the coverage is great, and customer service has been good.0

I'm up here in Canada, and we have terrible coverage where my igloo is. My smoke signals only travel half the distance they used to, depending on which kind of wood I use.
I used to be with Pine but they started charging for unused needles, so now I've switched to cedar. It costs a bit more, but it's better quality, and I can roll my logs over into the next month if I don't use them all.
Sorry, it's Monday and I'm a little cranky without coffee. :bigsmile:0 -
The closest Walmart to me is about an hour away:( So I'm waiting on my cricket phone to come in the mail0
