Moisture Wicking Shirts - How to Personalize

My friend and I are running a half marathon on my 30th birthday in April. We would like to personalize our race shirts for my birthday but we aren't sure if there are certain techniques that would or wouldn't work on moisture wicking/dri-fit shirts.

Any suggestions?
