Whole Citrus Fruit vs. Low Sugar

I am trying to follow a very low sugar regimen this month, taking in no more than 7 grams of sugar per day (only because total avoidance is near impossible). The question I have is: There are 14 grams of sugar (roughly) in the Orange I pack in my lunch. Does the fiber content of the orange offset the effects of the sugar when I eat the whole fruit (peeled)?

I am leery of totally giving up higher fiber fruits, but am trying to reach a reasonable compromise, if the sugar effects can be mitigated.

If no on the oranges, are there any high-nutrient/fiber and lower sugar fruits that would be acceptable for a lower sugar nutrition plan?

Appreciate your responses.

Good luck! Even an apple has 14g. If you figure out a way to stay under 7g in a day, let me know!

The fiber in fruit does change the way your body metabolizes the fructose in the fruit...it basically slows that process down. I do not worry about the sugar I get from fruit...I just try to keep refined/added sugar to a minimum due to blood sugar issues and I'm at hereditary risk for diabetes.
