So Ive been eating alot of lean cuisines and I know that just because they are low in cals..that they still arent good for you. So tonight i want to eat real food but I dont know what.

Pop a chicken breast on the George Forman, and some frozen broccoli in the microwave... VIOLA! Easy.
Or... cut up a chicken breast into chunks, slice some veggies of your choice (I like green peppers, onions, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes) throw them in the frying pan, add a tad bit of soy sauce... and VIOLA! Chicken stir-fry
Or... cut chicken breast into chunks, put it in a pot with some some frozen mixed veggies and water... boil until chicken is done... and VIOLA! Homemade chicken soup.0 -
How about some simple crockpot meals? If you become a member (for free) on sparkpeople.com, they have an AWESOME recipe section to choose from! They break down calories, carbs, fat, etc... for each recipe. Very simple recipes too!!! 1 really simple recipe is:
Take a whole over roaster chicken and stick it in your crockpot.
Add 3 tbs of lemon juice
A dash of basil
2 tbs of margarine (or whatever you choose)
salt and pepper
1/4 cup of water.
Put it in, in the am and let it go all day.
Smells sooooo good and tastes even better!
Serve it with some brown rice!
Makes great leftovers too!!!0 -
I used to be a terrible cook. I could get away with maybe throwing a steak or hamburger patty on my Foreman grill and microwaving some green beans, but that was about as far as it went.
I think one of my first "healthy meals" that I made went like this:
Bought some frozen chicken tenderloins in a bag. You can get that "boil in a bag" brown rice (better for you than white rice), start that up. Chop up about a quarter of an onion and a zuchinni. You can thaw the chicken, about 3-4 tenderloins, or throw it frozen into a pan with olive oil along with the onion and zuchinni. Season with pepper and ginger. As the chicken cooks, use the spatula to cut into chunks. Serve over rice.
This was just for me, though you'll have some leftover rice for later.0 -
Those Perdue Chicken cutlets - already made are awesome! I like to fry 'em up in EVOO with some grillin seasoning and toss them on a nice cold salad. I added pecans to my salad yesterday for lunch. It was REALLY good! But you can either eat them right out of the bag or heat 'em up. They really are a great time saver too!!0

Look for ChefJeremyC on here, he has a great blog with recipes that are easy and healthful.
One of my quick easy dinners, fry up some ground turkey breast with some pepper, garlic powder, onion powder. dump some ragu pasta sauce over it when done. dump that over some whole wheat pasta. eat with a salad. or, you can also toss some veggies (broccoli, zuccini, yellow squash, broccoli rabe) on top of the pasta sauce for a few minutes so it can steam. easy way to add veggies to your pasta. You could even forget the pasta and just have the sauce meat and veggies.
or, PBJ on whole wheat with Bird's eye steamer veggies (just veggies no sauce or salt). 5mins to make.0 -

The George Foreman grill is the best!!! Every day this week I've rotated having grilled chicken and turkey patties (99% extra lean ground turkey) top with pineapple salsa (newman's) yummy!!!

Homemade chicken curry...
Chicken breast diced
Peppers
Onions (& any other veg you like)
tin of chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp of mild curry powder
Chicken stock pot or 1/2 pint of stock
Some salt
1 tbsp of sugar or sweetner
1 tbsp of honey (optional)
Fry off chicken and add vegetables, stirfry for a few minutes, add tin of chopped tomatoes and mix well, add stock pot or about 1/2 pint of chicken stock (depending on how much sauce you want you could add more or less) add curry powder and again add more if you like it spicy!! add sweetner or sugar and salt if desired, leave to simmer for about 20/30 minutes
I absolutely love this curry, you can make your own alterations to it to either spice it up or tone it down0 -

Proteins - is the best dinner. I make a salad from light tuna + 2 hardboiled eggs + tomato + salad leaves. I do not use dressing but you can put some soy sauce (Kikkoman is the only one I know which does not have sugar in it)0

Oooh! That sounds interesting. I've seen the mango one that I've used to marinate shrimp in (then grill). I'm going to have to check out what you did!
As for the Foreman grill...I hated mine! It would burn the meat before it was done. I prefer the real grill or stove. But maybe I had a defective grill.0 -

Go to Trader Joe's and get the Frozen Chicken Breast Tenderloins (don't get Purdue). They're $6.99 or so for 2.5 pounds. The strips take 25-30 minutes to cook and I eat them by themselves with some veggies and rice, or I put them in a salad with a hard-boiled egg, spinach, etc...
Watch the soy sauce...loaded with sodium; as are some of the Lean Cuisines and other frozen meals.
You really don't have to be able to cook to eat right, you just have to pay attention to what's in things...if you buy a meal that you just have to throw on the burner or in the microwave, watch the sauces they come with...try to only use 1/2 or so to avoid the sodium.
Vegetables are the easiest things to cook; steaming broccoli takes less than 10 minutes.0 -

Depends on how you treat it. You can sautee chicken in a fry pan with a little pam or a dash of canola/olive oil and be fine. Sometimes people new to cooking can end up drying out food by baking it.
Edit: But if you are careful, like put it in a foil pouch to bake, it should keep moist0 -

I like you was miserable in the kitchen. Ruined multiple pans and spatulas just making grilled cheese. About 2 weeks ago my company news letter had this awesome recipe in it. I decided I wasn't going to learn until I tried. So I bought all the ingredients and followed the instructions exactly. Amazing meal! Maybe buying a cookbook or just finding a recipe online that looks good will be a motivator to start trying to learn to cook.
This was the recipe: Cut through the middle of the chicken breast not quite all the way through to make a pocket. Chop up ham and mix that with shreaded cheese and dijon mustard and stuff it inside. Dip the chicken breast in a bowl of egg whites then roll it around in some bread crumbs. Fry it in a pan with some EVOO for 2 min until that side is browned then put it on a cookie sheet (brown side up) and in the oven for 20 min at 400 degrees.0 -

go to your local grocery store and next to the tuberware or saran wrap area you'll find "ziploc steam fresh bags". THEY SAVE MY LIFE.
you can throw your entire meal in there and microwave it in less than 5 mins. no kidding- salmon, chicken, beef, pork. everything. and you dont have to separate things out either so you can piece your salmon and your broccoli and whatever veg you like all in one bag.
5 mins later- hey presto you have a HEALTHY COOKED MEAL0 -
Next time you are in this predicament go to the grocery store and buy one of the Garlic Chicken Viola meals (frozen). They take 10-15 minutes in a pan on the oven a taste yummy! 2 cups (which is a lot to me) is only 480 calories.0

I usually grill chicken breasts and eat with a veggie or pan fry fish dipped in cornmeal, salt, and pepper in olive oil flavored pam. It only takes about 10 minutes to cook thawed fish. I couldn't do lean cuisines for dinner. I eat them for lunch.0

Hi there,
I always have trouble for dinner as well because the meal has to be nutricious for my 1 year old also. One of our new favorites is a 4 egg omlette (which I'll share with him) with ham and onion (and cheese on his part). I'll also fry up some turkey bacon, and have a piece of ww toast.
Delicious and very filling!
