The last two times i have eaten a lettuce salad, i suffer at night with my guts rumbling and roaring. Thank goodness i am at home. Is it possible i am getting too much fiber, even though my diary says i am on track? Or maybe an intolerence to lettuce? Anyone else have this problem?

Ummm... I can't help you with this. I LOVE eating lots of salads because they make *ahem* "go". They keep me regular :blushing:

I'm not a doctor or nutritionist by any means but I think the more fiber the better. Could it be you upped your fiber intake too fast? I think your body has to adjust. If you were eating minimal fiber before maybe you should try less fiber and increase the amount gradually. No one should have to be sick or in pain because they are changing their eating habits.

One salad shouldn't kill ya, but yes too much salad can cause distress.. Especially if you have a colitis.

If MFP says you are on track, you are not getting too much fiber.

However, if you are getting more fiber than you are used too, it can take time for your body to adjust.
  • any time you change your diet it can lead to temporary gastro issues. A salad is not going to give you to much fiber.

I would say stay the course for a few weeks, and see what happens.

Eating healthy, esp. veggies, can take some getting used to for your body.

A sudden or drastic increase in fiber could cause you some digestive upset. When increasing your fiber intake, it should be done slowly.

So that means if you did not previously eat much fiber at all and then suddenly went to even a normal amount of fiber it can do that... but your body gets used to it.
