Help my ankles are killing me. what should I do Ice them?. I have only been doing jogging 1.33 miles almost everyday and then just started 30 Day shred. but my ankles hurt so bad. I have about 3 different pair of sneakers one for work when I run a mile at lunch and two at home for when I do 30 day shred or walk or jog 2 miles at night. They just started recently hurting. I tore some ligiments in one back about 7 years ago. but they both hurt. suggestions.. ?? I dont really have the money to go see a doctor.

Rest them, ice them, elevate them. You do not want to cause further injury. If they are hurting, you've worked them too hard or put them in a position they didn't like. Taking some time off won't kill your exercise routine if you continue to eat healthy.

You should try to look up low impact exercises and exercises that you can do sitting down.

    ^Agree. Rest, ice, elevate.

And your shoes may not be the right shoes for you. You could need inserts (for arch support), or stability shoes (for pronation issues) or a neutral shoe, or a cushioning shoe. The best thing to do would be to get fitted for shoes at a running store. Shoes (and sometimes inserts) make a huge difference.

And when you do even more damage, you'll have to be out twice as long. I busted my tailbone a week ago and was only able to start exercising a couple of days ago. Had I pushed it, I'd be out of commission for another two weeks.

    Rest.

Buy an ankle brace? That's what I was told to do. I don't know if the one I bought will make a huge difference but here's trying! I have weak ankles and get ankle pain almost every time I run. It goes away pretty quickly, but it makes me want to stop so bad. And I'm training for a race so I can't.

It's tough when you can't go to a doctor, and don't want to rest. My ankles were in rough shape for a while, I did get physical therapy and inserts to correct my overpronation. Make sure that your leg muscles are strong, this will help with ankle stability. Also, look into getting orthotic inserts for your sneakers. Even at some drugstores like CVS you can stand on a machine and it will make suggestions.

Then why not try different types of exercise while sitting down? Get something heavy and work those arms! Do some leg raises and some ab work. There are a lot of things you can do without using your ankles, just not a lot of cardio.

Another idea is if you aren't hurting very badly, get an ankle brace and try to do something low impact (no running). Try a stationary bike or swimming if it's available.
