What have your results been with your BMF?

I've decided to start altering my calories consumed based upon my BodyMedia Fit and not MFP. My weight has not changed in about 1 month & I am becoming very frustrated. According to my BMF, my TDEE is much higher than what the scoobyworkshop.com gives me. My calorie deficit has also averaged about 1000 calories per day - one would think I would lose weight. I'm concerned I'm not eating enough - even after calculating my #'s via scoobys site. :-|

I definitely think 1000 calorie deficit is way too much. I believe a good 15-20% deficit is best. Maybe post in the EM2WL group..

I wish my BMF would not have been such a piece of c---! I had nothing but problems with it and ended up just giving up after 90 days of call after call, reset after reset....

So far I'm liking mine but it doesn't seem to pick up my weight lifting sessions at all. I get a 4 minute moderate exercise for a 40 minute workout session..which makes me wonder if the calories are accurate. Yes, I get a sweat on when lifting, so I know it's not from lack of exertion!

I use BMF and find my golden number is right at 500 calorie deficit... but I also notice if I eat less than 1600 calories no matter what my calorie deficit I don't lose.

Do you mind me asking how many calories you burn per day?

On an inactive day, no formal exercise and working mostly at a desk, just over 2000 calories... when I work in my studio or exercise then I'm right at 2200-2500 a day... on my long walks (I like walking in 5k's) around 2800-3000

I am pear-shaped and have a slower metabolism, it's very difficult for me to lose weight in general, for example it's taken me 10 months to lose that 20lbs I've lost.

I've been thinking about getting one, too, just to try something new. But do you really wear it 24/7 (what about in the shower?). And how long should one plan to use it for? 30 days? 90? If it's going to be on my arm 24/7, I don't think I'd want to use it long-term.

I have been using mine off an on for about a year. It does have some quirks...like if you are shopping and have bags in your hand that inhibits arm swing, it wont count the steps. The other thing was that it didn't account for your exercise for NET calories...and when I did long distance running, I really relied on MFP (and the linking of the two) to make sure I was eating enough.

What really helped me with bodymedia was seeing how many calories I burned in a day as most TDEE calculators overestimated my burn. On a non exercise day I only burn about 1750 a day! Most calculators said I burned about 2K...no wonder I wasn't losing LOL.

So I would say between the two MFP and BM...It has helped me be accountable. Now if they would just shock me whenever I reach for the candy bowl :)

I have been using BMF since January of this year. So far I have lost almost 11lbs. I had to readjust my calorie deficit to something that is a bit more manageable. I burn about 2400-2600 calories with exercise and only about 2040 calories without exercise. I try to eat about 1600 calories per day.

OP: have you tried a percentage off of your burns from the BMF instead of a static number? I've had my BMF for just about a year now, but took if off for about 6 monts during the summer/fall/early winter when I took a break from weightloss. The BMF did not help me lose weight at all when I tried the "3500 deficit a week = 1lb lost" rule. My body does NOT follow the rules. LOL. I am slowly but surely losing on a 20-25% deficit though. The most important thing the BMF taught me is how much my calorie burn is to maintain! It's an amazing tool really, I've learned so much from it.

To get my intake goal, I take a week's or more worth or BMF burns and average them out, then take a 5% margin of error off of that, and THEN take 20% and 25% to give myself a calorie range goal for every day. This means my deficits daily vary from 300-800+ depending on how active my day was. My hunger is just HAPPIER on a static amount each day. My average burns range from 1900 on a non-workout weekend lazy day to 2700-2900 on an average workday with exercise (very active job). When I take my BMF burns and average them out, my maintenance level's around 2400-2500.

And yes the BMF doesn't do "net" calories- that's an MFP thing. If you're choosing to follow the BMF you have to ignore MFP's advice and use it purely for the food diary and it's syncing ability to the BMF site.

Another important thing to remember is that any change in diet or exercise will mean your body will need 4-6 weeks to adjust, so don't expect loss right away.
