DOMS & exercise?

Hi, I'm just getting back into exercise after a 6 week break due to ill health, and I was wondering what the opinion was about DOMS. Should I push through and keep doing exercise or should I back off and totally recover first???

Active recovery works best for me. If I am totally inactive I end up feeling worse. I will do low intensity exercise, swimming or a brisk walk, etc.

Also, if you are experiencing a lot of soreness, consider how far you are pushing yourself. You don't want to workout so hard that you end up not being able to work out at all for several days.

I wouldn't work the same muscle group again. You can do other workouts that target elsewhere, but it's not a good idea to continue to work the area that is in pain.

Zyhee stated it rather well. Many people work out with DOMS sore muscles are part of it. But, if you're experiencing muscle soreness to the point where you're unable to workout you should probably throttle back the intensity of your workout until your muscles are more conditioned and developed. I usually rest one day in between strength training workouts and I still have some soreness on the day when I go back to the gym but never enough to hinder performance and usually once I'm warmed up I don't notice the soreness near as much.
