I have seen many women and men on here post amazing results from 30DS, and so I am going to do it, along with my usual cardio and weight lift routine, to motive my grandfather to get in shape.

1st question, how intense is this? I am wanting my grandfather to do this with me so he can lose some weight.
2nd question, about how many calories would a 177lb man burn while doing this, and a 215lb man burn?

It's pretty intense. I'm moderately active and had a lot of trouble moving to week 2. I still want to try again, though! I'm sure you'll both do fine.

For calories, I'm going to pull an 'MFP' here and tell you to buy an HRM. If you don't want to, use a calculation website. You'll basically be doing 25-30 minutes of light calisthenics. Jillian drives me insane, but she does good at keeping things moving. I say do the first day, then calculate as best you can. It's hard to tell without experiencing it first.

    Good luck, friend! :drinker:

I unfortunately don't really have money to go out and buy an HRM. I wish I did, but with college, I've had over $1000 in bills come in in this month... not something that's fun to pay.

Hi there! As mentioned, it is pretty intense. However, it can be modified and done at any pace that suits your grandfather. Just note that some of the moves are particularly hard on the knees and joints, so just be wary of it.

As for calories burned, I'm actually impressed with MFP estimates. I (as well as many others) log it as "Circuit Training, general". MFP will take your stats into account when estimating. I did the entire program before I purchased my Polar FT4 HRM, so I was concerned MFP was overestimating my 230 calorie burn. (I'm 5'8 female, at the time ~180lbs).

However, I've done each work-out since with my HRM and found MFP was pretty much dead on.

This may not be the case for everyone, as it highly depends on your current fit level and the amount of effort exerted during the work-out. But if you're giving it your all, it's probably okay to rely on MFP's estimate. If you want more accuracy, invest in a HRM.

Hope this helps, and good luck to you and g-pa!
